Are there any websites etc. that might give recommendations for a good therapist around the Philadelphia area? I've been looking and I've got no luck.
How would you go about finding a good therapist?

First, are you talking about a physical therapist or a pyschologist/pyschiatrist?

Oh.
Well, when I was looking for mine, I first checked with my insurance (assuming you have some) website to see who was covered with them. After I printed out the list, I narrowed it down by gender (I wanted a male), then I googled the names of the first few to see what type of therapy they practiced (there are different types of therapy treatment), then I called the ones that sounded promising and asked them some questions on the phone (e.g. How long have you been practicing?, Do you have any experience with patients with the issues I'm facing?, etc.). Then I met for a small session with 3 and finally picked 1 because I really 'clicked' with him during the small session we had. I ended up seeing him for a little under a year (the only reason I stopped was because my stupid insurance was switched and he wasn't under the new one). Have you called up any to see if they can see you for a small session, just to get a sense of whether you'd click with them? |

Yep, that's exactly what I did when I was looking for mine.
Therapists are kind of like trying on shoes. You're probably not going to click with the first one you meet, so you might have to talk to a couple before you find one you like. |

i would say word of mouth. Then again not everyone is open about talking about it. I would also ask your primary dr and see if they have any one they
reccomend.
