Can we have a general MLB 2009 thread? |

I know some people have seperate threads for their teams, but I thought it would be nice to have just a general one. If we want to do that, I'll edit this
title to make it.

And a suprise to no one Chipper is hurt again. I love that man but what is going on with him over the past two years?

^I am sorry to hear that, Chipper is always dangerous against every team.. that has to suck, I was worried about Hamels there since they had his elbow checked
out, but its fine there.
I am worried about Rollins and Vic, they been playing alot on USA team, I just pray they don't get injured before reg season begins. |

I'm annoyed the US couldn't do the right thing like the DR did and not make it to the next round. |

LOL Bianca
Anyways, I always like the All Star and USA team I mean its neat and nice to have guys from all teams on one team together...
I am so ready for the season.. can April get here ANY faster? |

I have been SUCH a spring training whore. SUCH a whore.
Living in S. FL is the bomb right now, but it sucks because all I have to see during the regular season is the Marlins.

LMAO that Houston is 2-16 in spring training so far.

^Poor Houston. Well it is just spring training though Julia, any team can bomb now, but they can't do it in reg season LOL
Anyways, the Phillies have been having a lot of tied games in spring training.. thats no fun. Anyways, I think the East is gonna be very fun, If Marlins play as well as they did last year, Braves get into it, and so do the Nats, its going to be very competitive, I do like that though. Mets & Phillies are always competing especially against each other LOL |

I know, Spring Training means absolutely nothing. If the Mets were 2-16 right now, I wouldn't even care because it's so irrelevant to the season
itself. But on the other hand, it's fun to point and laugh when it happens to another team!

Laugh at me, I laugh at myself but I think I can jinx my sports teams sometimes and I don't mean to do it lol.. I am so excited, I want the East teams to all be competitive, I know you may think I am weird but I like when everyone does well, and its a close race and we don't know who will end up with the division at the end, because when you have one team ahead by a lot, its boring then.. I hope you guys get what I mean lol.. Not saying I don't like that, but I like a close race it gets you more into each game then. |

JulieAnne20 wrote:I'm a big Houston Astros fan myself, and I'm not terribly worried with their poor spring record. Mike Hampton has pitched outstanding this spring. Roy Oswalt and LaTroy Hawkins have participated in the World Baseball Classic. Jose Valverde hasn't been getting much work. The everyday lineup has only been together for four games so far... How good the Astros are this season depend on three things to me... 1. Kaz Matsui and Michael Bourn have to produce good on-base percentage hitting in the one and two spots in the lineup. 2. The starting rotation has to stay healthy. We already know Roy Oswalt is going to be one of the best in the game, but guys like Mike Hampton, Russ Ortiz and Wandy Rodriguez have to perform well. I'm not expecting Brian Moehler to pitch as good as he did for a two-month stretch last year. 3. The bullpen has to stay strong. That's probably the Astros' biggest strength entering this season. Their bullpen is solid. Jose Valverde has led the National League in saves for the past two seasons and LaTroy Hawkins pitched exceptionally well for Houston last year. He was garbage for the Yankees, totally sucking but in Houston he has been "Lights Out!" P.S. - To think the Astros bullpen is still good these days is amazing. Especially after they lost two all-star caliber relievers during the past few years, trading closer Brad Lidge last off-season and also trading reliever Dan Wheeler a few seasons ago, both of which represented the Phillies and Rays during the 2008 World Series. At any rate, I do have faith the Houston Astros will be much better than most people are anticipating. This spring record means little to me. |

^Do you guys still have Randy Wolf? I loved him as a Philly. I wish sometimes we would not have let him go. He is a decent pitcher.

Unfortunately, the Astros no longer have Randy Wolf. He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent this off-season. I'll miss him, because he was
a big part of the Astros second half success last year. Everybody is hoping Mike Hampton can somehow replace Randy Wolf, and he very well could if he stays
healthy.
Mike Hampton has been one of the few bright spots for the Astros this spring. He's tossed ten straight scoreless innings, even though it doesn't matter much right now. I also like the Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez signing for the Astros. Even though he's 37 years old, the Astros really needed that offensive boost from the catcher position. The Astros are going to be a lot better than people think this year. This isn't going to be a 72-90 team like many people are predicting. Worst case scenario, they'll be a .500 team around 81-81, but I predicted they'll win near 86 games just like last year when they came up four games short of winning the NL wild card. |

I hoped you did like Wolf, he seemed like a great teammate.
Good luck with Mike Hampton, seems like when he was with the Braves the last few years, he was injured most of the time. Pudge is a good player, I really think age sometimes shouldn't matter, not saying I think 50 years should keep playing LOL Take Jamie Moyer from the Phillies, he is 46 years old and last season he GOT us 16 wins.. and he is just so good, and people have put him off to the side a lot and thats just not right. And don't ask me why, but Moyer DEFINITELY has the Marlins # lol... I don't think Florida likes him too well .. lol.. Anyways, I am so happy we still have LIDGE, I bet you get sad that you don't have him anymore sometimes? I just wish we NEVER got Wagner, though lol... oh well.... I am just happy for this team.. I didn't think I would ever live to see a WS win, I was born in 84, and they won the whole thing in 80, all I wanted was to just have the experience, and with Burrell leaving after 10 years, it was perfect to win it all last year ya know? Anyways, its a LONG season which I AM SO happy about so Good Luck to your team

The Astros finally won two games in a row this spring, LOL... That's not a big deal, but they were on pace to only win one game prior to yesterday's
game.
I miss Brad "Lights Out" Lidge. He was always a great player and a class guy when he played for the Astros. Even when he struggled, he never made any excuses and he took the blame. I was glad to see him have a perfect season last year, and I was also happy he won the 2008 World Series with the Phillies. He came so close in 2005, but the Astros were swept by the White Sox in the World Series that year. Brad Lidge was always awesome though! |
|||
Sweetie1384 |
|||
|
^Yeah and I was TICKED off by the interview guy at the end asking Brad about what happened with the Astros and how he blew the game.. I thought that was NOT
relevant... Lidge was like that was the past and what not.. I tell you what.. I am sure that a lot of Astros fans STILL loved Lidge now.. but yet I heard they
got rid of him because they thought he was done?
Haha sorry.. he came back 100 % and had a perfect season for us
I wish we never got Wagner from you guys though lol.. I think he is overrated... and he likes to talk shit about his teammates when they do bad, but when he blows how many games he says nothing isn't that funny? He has said shit about Perez with the Mets this past season but when HE blew games he was quiet how amazing is that? See and people were surprised when BURRELL called him a RAT.. but I think people now see that Wagner really is that.. Anyways, Good luck I just LOVE baseball... And I am glad there are SO many games.. I just wish I could watch them all

I actually do miss watching Brad Lidge performing in an Astros uniform, but Jose Valverde has been one of the better closers in the National League during the
past three seasons. He led the National League in saves for two straight seasons.
On the other hand, there's not a better closer than Brad Lidge in the game right now. You simply can't top a perfect season capped off by a World Series championship! When you're talking about Brad Lidge right now... You're talking about perfection! I mean hey, I didn't really watch the 2008 all-star game anyway. I think that was the only save he blew all year long. |
