Olivia, I think it's probably something like that, be a veto or a sing off or something - somehow giving the judges more control over the final say.

Which I think officially changes American Idol to be a true reality show, as opposed to a singing competition that the public actually votes on. They've always claimed VFTW doesn't have as much power in the grand scheme of things as people think - that, in the end, good contestants will make it farther and end up at the finale. Occasionally, there'll be a JHud or Daughtry fluke (which, I think, predated VFTW, didn't it?), but in the end, most of the better singers get farther than the mediocre ones, even if it's messed up by a week or two. Sure, Sanjaya may have overstayed his welcome by a few weeks, but did we really lose anyone that important within those weeks?

I think they're stupid to give the judges any additional input - why are people going to vote if, in the end, it doesn't REALLY matter anyway?

interviewed Ken Warwick on his radio program today. Ken says the "new rule" that will be introduced tonight came about to solve a "problem that's been around since Season 1."

Ken says they tried the rule out in the French version of Idol first.

According to the Wikipedia entry for Nouvelle Star, in the last series, the judges were able to exercise a one time veto on an eliminated contestant at any point in the competition. The judges used their veto during the first week, sparing a contestant named Kristov, who was eventually eliminated 3 weeks later."
