My boyfriend sent his resume to a job he saw on craigslist and got this response (sorry it's long!):
Thank you for your interest in applying here at Schaffer Enterprises. We are in need of many qualified employees so please follow the steps below so we can get you into our system.
We have had a problem recently with craigslist applicants sending fake resume attachments which are actually downloadable viruses, causing our network to crash. After our third network collapse we have now been forced to change the process of uploading your resume. If you want to be considered for the position you MUST follow the steps below for us to view your resume and consider you for the position.
What you need to do is to head over to one of Schaffer Enterprises regular customer websites. We are also a large marketing company, so we are using our regular marketing websites to make a database for applicants. Once you are there you will need to fill in some basic information like email address and zip code. Once you get to page 2 of the website you will see a dropdown box where it asks if you are applying for a job with Schaffer Enterprises. It is very important that you fill out all information and then check your email to confirm your email address. If you don't do this we will not be able to open your resume.
We apologize for making you do this, but we need to take these steps to protect our computer network. Also this helps weed out applicants who don't know how to follow directions.
You can begin this process at the website below: http://boomzip.com/url/rotator/jobs_resume
After you finish, we will have your info in our database and then we will look at your resume. WE WILL NOT LOOK AT RESUMES THAT HAVE NOT COMPLETED STEP 1.
After you have completed step 1 you can then upload your resume here: http://boomzip.com/resume1248.php
Thanks again for your interest in the position. If you have followed all instructions we will contact you within 1 week at maximum.
The first link goes to a "YOU WON A FREE CAMERA!!!" kind of thing and the second is actually a place to "upload a resume" but the whole thing seems off. I googled "Schaffer Enterprises" and didn't find anything local, or anything looking for a chef. The original ad seemed total legit, listed job duties and salary and everything!
He was so excited he finally heard back from someone after sending out tons of resumes to no response
