Question: Does this money go to places like China that force women to get abortions?
Nope. China is more than able to pay for that themselves. Plus they don't actually hold a gun to peoples heads, but they use economic sanctions towards families that have more than 1 child. Not that I'm defending them, just for the record.
Obama ends funding ban for abortion groups abroad

Will this help any US based groups though? Or is this only abroad? I'm sure places here could use the money too though right? I'm just guessing here, but places here could certainly use more money for family planning, but it's no comparison to centers in places where the governments are so poor or corrupt that they don't do anything to support family planning. I'm sure, though, that Obama will increase family planning services in the States, too. I think it's a worthwhile cause anywhere in the world. |

I want to know the details of this...what countries the money goes to and how it's allocated.

For the first time in 8 years I can say, "That's my President." with pride instead of sarcasm.

The U.S. and other rich countries give aid (food, healthcare, etc.) to 3rd world countries, so yes it is our tax dollars but it has always been like that. Bush
and the presidents before him have always pledged to support poor countries. So I don't get why some people are bitching now.
What the Bush admin threatened to do to clinics or organizations who distributed the money (our tax dollars) was that they would cut funding if those clinics performed abortions. But what they overlooked was that those same clinics also provided people access to contraceptives, family planning, etc. People from many of these nations that receive aid have very little to no knowledge about STDs and the clinics are also used to help distribute that information. By restricting them from receiving more money, the more common services that they provide are the ones that suffer most. Those clinics are not abortion clinics, they provide women (and men) different options so they can decide what's best for THEM. |
