mshinda wrote:really? So do all highschools in the U.S. teach on the same level? Over here (and probably similar in the rest of Europe) for example you have different highschool levels being IVBO, VBO, MAVO, HAVO, VWO. After primary school, you'll be advised to go to one of them. Only if you completely finish the hardest and longest one to do which is VWO, will you be able to go to the university. Otherwise no university for you.
As long as you meet entrance requirements and have the ability to pay, any high school graduate in the U.S. may attend college.
And this at least didn't begin as a college vs. no college discussion, it was about "tier" or status of the institution.
Are you college institution snob

The only thing you must have is a high school diploma (or GED as Muppet said). Now, whether or not you'll be accepted into a given college, based on
grades, SAT score, high school from which you came, what characteristics the college is looking for in students etc. etc. etc., is another story. But yes, any
HS graduate is eligible to apply.

ok thanks. But I'm sure I couldn't go to any university in the U.S. without my VWO highschool degree either.

I think the GED requirements will mention requirements for foreign students like having that VWO degree. I was just confused bout how everyone here said it
was stupid if people didn't go to college when over here, sometimes you aren't allowed depending on your highschool level. Have a clearer view now.
My University is/was ranked one of the best economic/business universities in Europe. Sucks though that nobody really knows it. lol

to the best school. It doesn't define you and people who look down on you for it often have a lot to learn themselves. Also, college isn't for
everyone. Plenty of people do just as well if not better, who never went to college, or dropped out. I think that's becoming more common, actually. I think
it's more important that you make something of yourself and contribute to society somehow, than what school you went to or what degree you have.
It's too bad some snobs never learn to come back down to earth. Some humility would do you a world of good. |
