Chapter 38
Fox stepped off the elevator and ran down the hall toward Nick's room. "Daddy!" said Nick "Hey Buddy. I got here as fast as I could." Said Fox kissing Allison "Its fine." Said Allison "What's wrong, Buddy?" asked Fox "I want you." Said Nick "You want me? Well, I'm here now." Said Fox "I'll go get a nurse." Said Allison getting up "Okay. So Buddy, why didn't you want your bag of water medicine?" asked Fox loosening his tie "Because you not here." Said Nick "Well, I'm here now." Said Fox as Allison and a nurse walked in "Are we ready now?" asked the nurse "Yes." Said Fox "No." said Nick holding Leo to his chest "Buddy, I'm here now." Said Fox "No Daddy." Said Nick "What if I hold you during your bag of water medicine?" asked Fox "I be brave." Said Nick "Yeah. You'll be brave. We both will." Said Fox picking him up and sitting down on the bed "Are we ready now?" asked the nurse "Yes." Said Fox "Yes." Said Nick laying his head on Fox's chest and the nurse sticks the IV needle into the port A couple of hours. "He's asleep finally." Said Allison taking the bowl away "Good." Said Fox "I wish I could make all this go away for him." Said Allison "Me too." Said Fox "It wasn't so bad for him this time. Only for you." Said Allison "Yeah. You think they provide pants here?" asked Fox "Maybe you should use some of your Coles magic." Said Allison "Coles magic, huh?" asked Fox "Yeah." Said Allison R&R |

Chapter 39
Five weeks later Allison bolted out of bed and rushed into the bathroom. Fox immediately got up and followed her. "Oh God." Said Allison kneeling in front of the toilet and vomiting "Its going to be okay." Said Fox holding her hair back as she vomited some more. "Just let it out." Said Fox rubbing her shoulders "Oh my God." Said Allison as she vomited and then leaned back against Fox "Are you okay now?" asked Fox "I don't think I can take too much more of this." Said Allison "Yes you can. Just a few more week of being sick and it will hopefully be over." Said Fox "I don't mean that." Said Allison starting to cry "What Baby? Talk to me." said Fox "Well, I do mean about being sick, but I don't think I can take much more of him being sick and watching our child slowly die." Said Allison as she cried into his bare chest "He's not going to die, Allie." Said Fox "He is getting weaker every time he has chemo. Not stronger. Yesterday, he couldn't even hold his head up. We might as well let him give up and die." Said Allison "I know. But we got to be strong. He is going to make these next six months." Said Fox "Why do I think he's not?" asked Allison crying as he held her and rocked her on the bathroom floor R&R |

Chapter 40
One week later Fox quickly ran down the hospital hallway to the nurses desk. "Can someone please page Dr Martin for me?" asked Fox "Well, what's the matter, Mr. Coles?" asked a nurse "My son Nick is very sick and I need you to get Dr Martin up here so he could prescribe some nausea medicine cause you people wont give it to him when he needs it." Said Fox "Mr. Coles, you are going to have to calm down." Said a nurse "My son is not lost, he is dying for Christ sakes." Said Fox "Sir, we have paged Dr Martin. Now, if you would go back to the room, one of us will be in there to reassure you and your wife that everything is normal." Said the nurse "Normal? Nothing in that room is fucking normal. Nick is very sick in there. He's been sick since five minutes after chemo started. He's never been this sick before. Now I am Fox Coles. My family has donated a lot of money to this hospital. Now, you get on that phone and tell Dr Martin that Fox Coles needs to see him right away and I will guandamntee you, he will be up here in the next minute." Said Fox "Yes Sir." Said a nurse "Thank you." Said Fox Fox walked into Nick's room and gasped at the sight of his son leaning over a bowl and vomiting clear water as his wife sits and rubs his back as she silently cries. "He'll be here soon." Said Fox "What happened? I heard yelling." Said Allison "I had to use some Coles magic." Said Fox "Yeah." Said Allison as the door opened and Dr Martin walked in "I'm sorry. I got here as soon as I could." Said Dr Martin "Its okay." Said Allison "He hasn't stopped vomiting since he started chemo. I don't think he has anything left in him." Said Fox "I see. Has he had diarrhea?" asked Dr Martin "Some." Said Allison "There has been times when he wouldn't open his eyes." Said Fox "Well, I'll give him some nausea medicine to see if that will work." Said Dr Martin "Thank you so much." Said Allison R&R |

Chapter 41
One month later, Fox and Allison sat beside Nick's hospital bed. "Grandma's coming, Daddy." Said Nick as he and Fox worked on a Lightening McQueen and Sally from Cars puzzle "Yes I know. Are you excited?" asked Fox "Yeah." Said Nick running his hand through his blonde hair, causing clumps to fall onto the pillow. "Oh my." Said Allison picking it up and putting her other hand to your mouth as tears formed in her eyes "Oh." Said Fox "What?" asked Nick "Nothing Baby." Said Allison "Is that my hair, Mommy?" asked Nick "Yes it is, Baby." Said Allison "Oh." Said Nick sadly "Buddy, how about you and I go into the bathroom? We can finish our puzzle later." Said Fox putting the puzzle on the tray "What do you have to do?" asked Allison "It's a guy thing, Baby. Something that us men have to do. Right Nick?" asked Fox gently lifting Nick's frail little body out of bed and into the small wheelchair "Right Daddy. What are we going to do?" asked Nick "I'll tell you later." Said Fox "Okay. It's a secret." Said Nick putting his finger up to his lips "Yeah. It's a secret. Baby, can you hand me my bathroom bag please?" asked Fox "Sure." Said Allison handing it to him "Thanks." Said Fox as he pushed Nick into the bathroom. The sound of an electric razor filled the room as Allison sat in the chair with tears going down her cheeks. "Please dear God. Please let him live another five months." Said Allison as she held the clumps of hair and rubbed her slightly swollen stomach A few minutes later Fox pushed Nick out of the bathroom. "Look Mommy." Said Nick proudly "I see that. Daddy shaved yours and his heads." Said Allison "Yeah." Said Nick "Do you like it?" asked Fox "Well, I'll have to get use to it, but yeah." Said Allison getting up "I had to shave my head too. I couldn't let him go through that alone." Said Fox "Did I mention that I love you so much?" asked Allison "No." said Fox "I love you." Said Allison kissing him "I love you too. Maybe since today is a good day, we can get Lindsey to watch him and we go home and have the night to ourselves." Said Fox "Thank God, Mother moved out." Chapter 42
A few days, Allison walked into the hospital chapel. She walked over to the candles and lit one. She slowly and carefully kneeled on the floor. "God the Father, God the son, and God the Holy Spirit." Said Allison as she crossed herself "Dear Lord, I'm on my knees begging you to help me find the strength to get through this crisis. For me to be strong for my husband and my son. This is a tremendous weight on my shoulders and I'm on my knees begging you to make Nicky well again. Please don't punish him for my mistakes in the past." Said Allison "God is punishing you and I'm enjoying every minute." Said Heidi "What are you doing here?" asked Allison slowly getting up "I'm here to see my boyfriend, the one that you stole." Said Heidi "He cant be your boyfriend if he is married to me." said Allison "Well, it can be arrange that you want have to stay married to him very long." Said Heidi "What the hell are you going to do? Cry until you get your way like you always do." Said Allison "No, I'm going to…." Said Heidi "Going to do what, Heidi?" asked Fox walking in "Fox. Your hair. You look so unattractive. What did you do?" asked Heidi "I shaved it along with my sons." Said Fox "Well, you look awful." Said Heidi walking out "Are you okay?" asked Fox walking over to Allison "Yeah, I'm fine." Said Allison "She didn't hurt you or the baby, did she?" asked Fox "No." said Allison "Good." Chapter 43
One month later Fox and Allison were in Nick's hospital room one night. "What time are you leaving for the night?" asked Fox "What do you mean? We came here together this morning." Said Allison "Exactly. You should go home and rest." Said Fox "I'm fine." Said Allison "Honey, you're five months pregnant. You need to rest." Said Fox "Fox, I really am fine." Said Allison "You should go home and rest." Said Fox "I cant leave him." Said Allison "Baby, you should go home. You haven't been home in a week." Said Fox "Neither have you." Said Allison "True, but Baby I had to work a lot so I can stay with him, while you go home to rest, but you wont do it." Said Fox "What's that supposed to mean? Do you want me to work, so you can stay with him?" asked Allison "That's not what I said." Said Fox "But that's what you meant." Said Allison "No its not. I want you to rest for the sake of you and the baby." Said Fox "I'm trying to rest, but its hard." Said Allison "I know, but you can rest better at home." Said Fox "No I wont." Said Allison "Yes you can. I'm here and even if I'm not, Nick is in good hands." Said Fox "If I go home, it might be the last time I see him." Said Allison "Oh Baby, it wont be. I promise you that." Said Fox pulling her up "I'm so scared that we are going to lose him." Said Allison "We are not going to lose him. He is going to be play outside soon and in years to come. I promise you that." Said Fox "Okay." Said Allison "Hey." Said Fox lifting her chin up "Yeah." Said Allison "Don't I always keep my promises?" asked Fox "Yeah." Said Allison smiling "And I do plan on keeping this one." Chapter 44
One month later The hospital elevator door opened and Fox ran off, leaving all others behind. He ran down the hallway and pushed the door opened harder than expected causing it to hit the wall. "What's wrong? Janet had to give me the message during a meeting." Said Fox "Nothing." Said Allison "I'm going home, Daddy." Said Nick excited with a smile on his face "You are? Really?" asked Fox looking at Allison "Really?" asked Allison "Why?" asked Fox "He's doing fine. The doctor said he could go home for the night." Said Allison "That's great. Um, I have to go by Bobby Johnson's house and give some papers to Mother." Said Fox "Bobby Johnson?" asked Allison "Yeah." Said Fox "Well, we can always drop us off and then you can go back." Said Allison "But its on our way to our house and I rather go on our way home, so I can settle into the night with my beautiful glowing wife and our son." Said Fox "Wouldn't it be easier to go now while I get Nick ready." Said Allison "No. Why do you not want to go to Bobby Johnson's house? He has always been kind to us." Said Fox "No. I know. I just don't want to go." Said Allison "Why? If your worried about Heidi, she wont hurt you. I promise." Said Fox "Okay. We can stay in the car while you go in." said Allison "Okay." Said Fox R&R |

Fox knocked on the door and waited. "We shouldn't stay very long." Said Allison "We wont." Said Fox as the door opened "Fox." Said McKenzie "Mother." Said Fox "Uh, come on in." said McKenzie "Thanks." Said Fox walking in "You're welcome." Said McKenzie "Mother, you know my wife Allison and this is my son Nick." Said Fox "Hey." Said Bobby, a tall, slim guy with brown hair and brown eyes, walking into the kitchen "Hey Daddy." I slept with Kathy the day before the wedding to William. She got pregnant and told me. We agreed that William should raise her because Allie would have had a better life with William than with me. I gave Kathy a check every month to help out." Said Bobby "That would explain all those checks to Kathy Carpenter that you said were for charity." Wait a minute, if they are your family, why didn't they get tested to help Nick?" asked Fox "We did, but unfortunately there wasn't a match, except for Heidi who was a ten percent chance of a match." said Bobby "Actually Daddy, it was more of a one hundred percent match." said Heidi "What?" asked Allison "What?" asked Fox "What? But you told me it was ten percent." said Bobby "I lied." said Heidi "How could you?" asked Bobby "Easy. When I got tested, you told me it was for a good cause. I relunctually did the test. When the doctor told me, I was a very good match to some kid in Coupeville. I went and looked it up on the hospital computer. And sure enough Nicholas Cameron Carpenter's name appeared on the screen. It was right at that time that you came back to Coupeville looking for Fox and I wasn't about to give him up that easily, so I said no that I wont have the surgery." said Heidi "Why?" asked Bobby "So I could watch my sweet, lovable sister suffer." said Heidi "You selfish bitch. You rather watch our son suffer and possibly die, then have a minor surgery. Just to watch me suffer." said Allison "Yep." said Heidi smirking "This isn't funny, Heidi." said Bobby "No its not. Its a good plan, but its not funny. Hell, you should be a Coles." said McKenzie "Thank you." said Heidi as Allison crossed the room in two steps, tackling Heidi to the ground grabbing her neck and banging her head on the floor. "Allie, Baby, Get off of her." said Fox pulling her off "I hate you Heidi Johnson." said Allison screaming "Calm down, Baby." said Fox "I hate you too, you bitch." said Heidi getting up and hitting her in the face with a closed fist "This is unforgivable, Heidi." said Bobby "Arrest her Daddy. For assault." said Heidi "No. You deserved the right to get attacked. How dare you stand there knowing you have the cure to help this little boy live! How dare you stand there and watch this family live like they are!" said Bobby "Fox is supposed to be with me, Daddy." said Heidi "He would have dropped you as soon as he realized what a bitch you really are." said Allison "That does it." said Heidi slamming her against the wall "Back off of her. She's pregnant. Do you want something to happened to the baby?" asked Fox "Yes. Good." said Heidi "That's it. Heidi, you and McKenzie are not allowed back in this house or this family." said Bobby "But Daddy." said Heidi "Get out! Both of you!" yelled Bobby "Bobby, could you watch Nick for us while I go take her to the doctor?" asked Fox after both McKenzie and Heidi walked out slamming the door "Sure." said Bobby "Fox Honey, I really am fine." said Allison "I'm not taking any chances, Allie." said Fox "Okay." said Allison R&R |

Chapter 47
Sitting in a couple of chairs, Fox looked at Allison, who was reading a magazine. "What?" asked Allison not looking up from her magazine "How come you didn't tell me that Bobby Johnson is your father?" asked Fox "I don't know." said Allison "I cant believe it. A man that I have known my entire life. A man that has been the chief of police for like ever is your father." said Fox "Are you mad at me for not telling you?" asked Allison "No. Absolutely not." said Fox "Oh." said Allison "The only person I'm mad at is Heidi. If only she would have had the surgery, then we wouldn't be sitting here right now." said Fox "That's true." said Allison "Allison Coles, come on back." said a nurse "I still say I shouldn't be here." said Allison getting up "Honey, its just a precaution to make me happy." said Fox "Okay." said Allison "I really am fine, Fox. The baby is still moving and kicking. We are both fine." said Allison "I know, but we cant take any chances." said Fox as the door opens and Dr Roberts walks in. "Hey Allison, Fox. What happened? My nurse said something happened." said Dr Roberts "I got into a fight with my half sister." said Allison "What kind of fight?" asked Dr Roberts "Lets just say, I think she should have played football in high school." said Fox "I tackled her and beat her head on the kitchen floor repeatedly." said Allison "Wow. Sounds like some fight." said Dr Roberts "We had found out that she could have saved Nick's life and she didn't so I attacked her." said Allison "And then she slammed Allison against the wall." said Fox "Did she hit you in the stomach?" asked Dr Roberts "No. That's why I said this is unnecessary." said Allison "Have you felt the baby kick or move since then?" asked Dr Roberts "Yes." said Allison "And have you used the bathroom since then?" asked Dr Roberts "Yes. When we first got here." said Allison "Did you see any blood?" asked Dr Roberts "No." said Allison "Well, I don't see anything wrong, so I'm not going to examine you, but if you feel pain or see blood, go to the hospital." Said Dr Roberts "I will." Said Allison "But there could be something wrong." Said Fox "Other then she will have a shiner in the morning." Said Dr Roberts "I meant about the baby." Said Fox "If the baby is kicking and moving and she is not feeling any pain or seeing any blood, she will be fine. Dan panics and worries over nothing and makes you come here." Said Dr Roberts "Yeah." Said Allison "Okay. Well come back at your regular visit and I'll see you then." Said Dr Roberts "That was a waste of time." Said Fox "I told you it was." Said Allison "I was just making sure." Said Fox "I know. Its sweet of you." Said Allison kissing him "Come on. Lets go home, so you can put a steak on your eye." Said Fox "Ew. I'm not going to put a piece of raw meat on my face." Said Allison "Fine. Then ice." Said Fox walking out of the room with her R&R |

Six weeks later, the phone rings in the middle of the night. "Hello? Yes, this is Fox Coles. Yes, that is my wife. Yes, we are his parents. Okay. We'll be right there." Said Fox "What's wrong with Nicky?" asked Allison "They didn't say. They only wanted us to come to the hospital." Said Fox "Oh God. What if something bad happened? What if he died?" asked Allison "Shh. Lets not think that. We don't know anything for sure yet." Said Fox "True." Said Allison pushing herself out of bed "It might be a good thing." Fox and Allison got off the elevator onto the eighth floor. Fox ran down the hall toward Nick's room only to find it empty. "Oh God." Said Fox "What? Oh my God." Said Allison starting to cry "Hold on. This has to be some kind of mistake." Said Fox walking to the nurses desk as Allison leaned up against the wall "Can you tell me where my son is and what happened to him?" asked Fox "Nicholas Carpenter?" asked a nurse "Yes." Said Fox "He moved up to ICU." Said the nurse "ICU? Why?" asked Fox "He developed a fever after you and your wife left." Said the nurse "Where's Dr Martin?" asked Fox "Upstairs." Said the nurse "Lets go." Said Fox "I knew we shouldn't have left him tonight." Said Allison as they walked to the elevator "I know." Said Fox "If only my feet wasn't so swollen, we could have stayed and this would not have happened." Said Allison "Don't blame yourself. It probably still would have happened." Said Fox as they got on the elevator "He must have been so scared." Said Allison "I'm sure he will be fine." Said Fox "I pray you're right." Said Allison R&R |
