Hey All, As many faux red heads know the color is nearly impossible to keep. I am looking for any suggestions, tips, tricks of the trade, people may have
discovered over time. I am thinking of trying Matrix Prisms hair gloss to try to keep the color going in between coloring. Has anyone tried it?

I've never tried hair gloss, but my hairdresser recommended that I use a leave-in conditioner instead of one that you'd rinse out. It seems to help a
lot. Right now I'm trying one that she just suggested called It's a 10. It's in a spray bottle, and I like it so far.
You might also try a color deposit shampoo. I still have the same bottle that I bought when I first got my hair color, because I only use it when it's close to the time when I need to get my hair dyed. In fact, I haven't used it in a few months, because the color has been staying fairly nice since I started using the leave-in conditioner. Hope this helps! |

I was a faux red head for about 3 years, so I know all about the upkeep. My recommendation is invest in color deposit CONDITIONERS. They are more effective
than color deposit shampoos. I recommend Aveda (both premade ones like madder root and personal blends conditioner, where you can add 1 or 2 color pigments.),
Graham Webb (unfortunately this brand is impossible to find), and Goldwell Color Glow (also not an easy brand to find). ARTec's color moisturizers are also
very good.
Goldwell Color Glow makes styling products (fluid, mousse and finish: I think this is pomade/paste.) that have red pigments in them. Also, if you have Sally's beauty supply nearby, you can find leave-in conditioners in red color. (I can't remember the brand for leave in conditioner. Fantasia hair glosser comes in red: this product is more of a silicone serum than leave-in conditioner though.) These come in handy when your hair has faded, your roots are coming in and you need to get your color touched up soon. |

I use Goldwell Color Glow (the color treatment conditioning mask) but they changed the packaging and formulations, and now I'm pissed. I also use one
called Riflessi Italy and they have several different red treatment shades. They are very pigmented and the color is rich and beautiful. And asrjulie said,
conditioners are much better. The shampoos are extremely drying.
