Hair straigthener advice, please!

Posts: 5097 (08/30/2008 10:59 AM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Friend Block Invite Ignore	I'm looking into buying a new straightening iron because my old one takes FOREVER to straighten my hair (hot tools 1.5"). And I was looking at the brand Sedu (the one that curls and its the brand that has the highest reviews), but I'm not sure if a 1"iron is going to be good enough for my long hair (past my shoulders). Then there's this one from Solia that is thicker (1 3/4"), made for longer hair that also curls, but obviously isn't the best brand. Or I can get Sedu 1.5" without the curler, or a CHI 2" that would ultimately flip my hair out, but not curl. I was wondering what you guys think about what would be better? I know there is reviews on the websites and I've looked at them, but I'm just hoping that I can be reassured on which one to buy by my specific questions revolved around my longer hair and the inches of the iron. Thanks!

They took forever to straighten and my hair would still be really thick and frizzy, hardly straightened at all. So I recently bought a 1 inch CHI and it works amazing. Makes my hair so much straighter and it lasts a lot longer. When I wake up from sleeping it looks the same. Also I learned the curl with it, surprisingly really easy and quick..so there's my recommendation.

My hair isn't necessarily thick but i have lots of it and it use to take me forever to straighten with my cheap old one . It heats up quickly and keeps my hair smooth. I compared the sedu and solia. I believe solia goes to a higher heat setting than sedu does. You can order it from folica.com and if you do not like it then you can always return it.

I think with 1 1/2" or bigger plates, you won't be able to get closer to roots. I say get 1", or at the most Solia 1 1/4". With 100% ceramic higher-end irons like Sedu, Solia or CHI, it would take much less time to straighten compared to cheaper irons. Personally for my wavy hair, Solia, even at the highest heat setting, didn't straighten my hair well. But Sedu (not even at the highest heat setting) always straightened well. I also love CHI original.

I'm hoping it'll die soon though, because I want a different one. I think you should get a 1 inch flat iron. A 1.5 inch seems nice because my hair is thicker and hella wavy, but like rjulie510 said, it can be hard to get close to the roots. Actually, now that I think about it, I probably spend the most time on the roots. Oh, and if you get the Sedu, make sure you decide quickly whether or not you like it! I wanted to return it, only to find out the day I wanted to return it was the last day I could get a refund for it. I ordered from folica.com.

I don't think the bigger plates actually speed up the process. I used to use a 1-inch Chi when I had really long hair, and it worked well. Now I have a 1-inch Sedu, and it also works well.
