The Rockets have done all they can without Tracy McGrady, who's career may as well be over. He won't return until next December during the final year
of his $23 million a year contract.
I've been proud of the Rockets, hanging tough and in position to win the third overall seed in the Western Conference without T-Mac. They're an exciting team to watch and I'll be proud of them no matter what they do in the 2009 NBA Playoffs in three weeks. The Rockets haven't won a playoff series since 1997, so it's hard to fathom them advancing past the first round of the 2009 NBA Playoffs, but you never know what can happen! I hope the Nuggets, Trail Blazers, Mavericks or Hornets in the first round because I believe the Rockets can possibly make a 7-game series with all of those teams very interesting. And they'd probably go all seven games... I'd rather avoid the Utah Jazz... I doubt we'll finish 7th or 8th so need to worry about the Lakers or Spurs in the first round. But definitely 3 to 6 are possibilities for the Rockets. An outside chance at the second seed also but unlikely. |

I'd be so thrilled if the Houston Rockets can get a first round matchup with the Dallas Mavericks. I still remember that entertaining playoff series that
went seven games back in 2005. The Rockets choked away a 2-0 series lead and a double-digit lead in game three at home... Tracy McGrady was playing at a
superstar level back then also, but he always had that first-round jinx that the media labeled him with.
Jason Terry was so clutch back then, and he's still a pesky problem now a days. But I'd take my chances with the Dallas Mavericks. The Rockets matchup extremely well against them, because they have enough inside-out game with Yao Ming and Ron Artest. And they can give Dirk Nowitzki fits on the offensive end with a combination of man-to-man defense by Artest and Battier. Josh Howard, Jason Terry and that other young PG the Mavericks have will give us problems. I'm not too concerned with an aging Jason Kidd, albeit he's still an excellent shooter and player Without McGrady right now, the Rockets are still a solid team. The fact they start Ron Artest and Shane Battier means they're even better defensively without T-Mac. I'm a little skeptical about the Aaron Brooks and Kyle Lowry tandem at point guard, but the Rockets get a lot of scoring and rebounding from their Luis Scola and Carl Landry power forward tandem, assuming Landry recovers from being shot in the calf muscle. He should be back before the playoffs start though. I'll be happy no matter which team the Rockets play in the first round of the 2009 NBA Playoffs, as long as it's not the damn Utah Jazz. They have our number, eliminating the Rockets the past two years in the playoffs. Rockets versus Nuggets. Rockets versus Trail Blazers. Rockets versus Mavericks. Rockets versus Hornets. I'd be so happy if the Rockets play any of those four teams in the first round, in that particular order as well. I believe the Rockets have a chance to win a 7-game series against any of those four teams. But I have my doubts they can get past the Jazz, Spurs and Lakers. They don't have to worry about the Spurs and Lakers in the first round though... Sigh, if only they had a healthy Tracy McGrady... I'd believe anything was possible, including beating the Jazz, Lakers and Spurs. But I still think the Rockets will advance past the first round this year. It will be the first time they'd have won a playoff series since 1997. I've been waiting 12 long years just to see the Rockets win a playoff series, so please understand my frustrations! If they fail to advance past the first round this year, I may as well give up being an NBA Fan. Perhaps I'll move to a city that doesn't have an NBA team ( Seattle, Washington ), as I learn about the orchestra! |

If the Mavs had won last night, they would've been only a half game behind both New Orleans and Utah. These teams are actually giving the Mavs a chance to
move up which I didn't expect to happen, but the Mavs are content with being swept in the first round by the Lakers. Why break the habit of first round
eliminations, right Houston fan?

Suns came back from being down 21, took a 7 point lead in the 4th, choked away that lead and let the Jazz send it to overtime where they ended up losing.
It's very rare that I'm mad at Grant Hill, but I'd beat his ass in the parking lot right now. No joke.

Rockets beat the Clippers at home...
At 48-26, the Rockets are tied with the Nuggets but the Rockets own the tie-breaker with Denver so the Rockets are currently the third seed with 8 games left. Rockets play at Phoenix on Wednesday Night, after having three days off. It's so tight in the Western Conference. The Rockets can still pass the Spurs for the second seed or the Rockets can still drop all the way down to the eighth and final seed. Anything can happen in these final 8 games. On the plus side, if the Rockets beat the Suns on Wednesday Night... That would be another step closer to eliminating the Suns from playoff contention, which would mean every team currently seeded will make the playoffs, including the Mavericks. The Rockets have a brutal final eight games though... At Suns, at Lakers, Trail Blazers, Magic, at Kings, at Warriors, Hornets and at Mavericks. That's a tough stretch of games... All the Rockets have to do is win one game, or have the Suns lose one game, to clinch a playoff berth though. The only way the Rockets can miss the playoffs is if they lose all 8 games left and the Suns win all 8 games left. I expect the Rockets to beat the Suns on Wednesday Night, so that will be cool to officially make the 2009 NBA Playoffs. After losing Tracy McGrady for the season, a $23 million dollar a year player, I was worried but the Rockets have actually become a better team without T-Mac, especially on the defensive end. Starting both Ron Artest and Shane Battier has been a blessing in disguise. Luis Scola is playing well, Yao Ming is dominating the paint and Brooks and Lowry are a quick and exciting point guard duo. I just hope we get Carl Landry back in time for the playoffs. He was shot in the leg a week ago and should return in two weeks. It was just a "flesh wound" and he's lucky he wasn't killed. The Chuck Wagon "Chuck Hayes" is a nice hustle player but Carl Landry is a much better backup power forward. Von Wafer is also a nice scorer and sparkplug for the Rockets, coming off the bench. Brent Barry can still make threes as well. It's going to be interesting to watch the Rockets in the playoffs. Most people think they're not any good without Tracy McGrady, but they're quite the exciting team right now. JC, good luck to the Mavericks! Rockets play the Mavericks on ESPN the final game of the regular season on April 15. Hopefully that game is meaningless for both teams. We'll have the second or third seed wrapped up and Dallas will have already clinched a playoff spot. I'd like for that final game to be a good time to rest players. Wouldn't that be something if the Rockets played the Mavericks in the first round? That's still a possibility at this point. LOL, anything can happen during these final two weeks.

JC, I'm sorry Dallas lost to the Cavaliers. I heard about it on ESPNNEWS. I still think Dallas will make the playoffs. The Rockets beating the Suns on
Wednesday Night will help.
I'm so excited for the playoffs, I can't stop listening to that song "Let It Rock" by Kevin Rudolf. This was the promo for the 2009 NBA all-star game, but I'm using it as the official song for the 2009 NBA playoffs as well! I'm always excited and ready for some NBA basketball when I hear that song! Anyway, I can't wait for the Rockets versus Suns game on Wednesday Night. Yao Ming versus Shaquille O'Neal yet again. An old-school matchup between legitimate centers. |

Suns lost to the Kings.
Go Spurs? I just don't think I can stomach any other West team. At least with them I'm used to it. |

Huge loss for the Spurs last night against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Now the Houston Rockets are tied with the Spurs for first place in the Southwest division
with 8 games left.
The Rockets, Spurs and Nuggets all have 26 losses apiece. It's a photo race to the finish for that second overall seed in the Western Conference! All the Rockets have to do is take care of business by beating the Suns in Phoenix tonight, and then the Rockets need to beat the Lakers in L.A. on Sunday. Forget the impossible and no Tracy McGrady, I'm starting to believe the Rockets have what it takes to do some special things! Ron Artest and Shane Battier are playing some of the best shutdown defense I've ever seen, Yao Ming is dominating the paint and he's playing at a high level right now. Even when opposing teams try to front Yao Ming late in games, he's capable of playing from behind the free throw line because he can hit a mid-range jumper and he's also an excellent passer, capable of hitting the cutter who's attacking the basket. Luis Scola is the type of hustle player all teams want to have. Ever since the Rockets beat the overrated Spurs in San Antonio last week, it seems like they've been playing with an undeniable sense of confidence and swagger! Carl Landry has started to practice after being shot in the leg during a carjacking two weeks ago. His recovery has been amazing. He should be at full force by the playoffs. I don't know if the Rockets can advance past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 1997, but it will be fun watching them regardless. The Suns are going down tonight! Their playoff run is about to officially end... I'm especially excited about another matchup between Yao Ming and Shaquille O'neal.

The Mavs continue to disappoint.
Jazz are apparently trying to tank their remaining games, and the Mavs refuse to take advantage of it. FML.
I'm sorry the Rockets choked away tonight's game against the Suns. Don't be, I wanted them to. I'm cheering the Suns on. I'd rather watch them play the Lakers than the Mavs. Mavs either need to move up in the standings or move the fuck out of the way for Phoenix. |

Phoenix fights to stay within striking distance of the 8th seed, and then they look like they want the season to be over in the biggest game of their season.
Could they look any less enthusiastic or interested in this game? They've got some bipolar-ness going on.
And LMAO at that shot at the end of the half. This is like some Warriors shit. |

Sorry PHX fans but they dont deserve to be in the playoffs, I mean 81 points in the first half? I expected the game with the Mavs to be a true battle--looks
like the Mavs want it more.
Me being a Laker fan and all--I was wanting the Suns a bit more because of the whole Kobe/Shaq thing, but Dallas will be fine. Cant wait for playoffs to start! |

bump! How is it that the playoffs are not being discussed yet?! Or am I blind?
I'm rooting for the Rockets, but they've got a hard task ahead of them without Yao- thats for sure. I hope they can keep that same intensity from game 4!
