-------------------- A Million Faces in a Crowd Chapter 9. Carly was busying herself in her weekly tasks as she always did. Since her surprise visit from JC, she'd been overwhelmed and distracted all at the same time. His sudden presence in her life had her mind whirling and contemplating the simplest things all at once. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't waiting for his call to say he was done in the studio but she hadn't wanted to bother him while creating music. The man was working and Carly didn't find it her place to ruin that. The night he left, Carly found it oddly hard to sleep in the comfort of her own bed. Her mind quickly flashed back to JC's "challenge" as he so charmingly put it. His lips felt exactly like she expected them to. Soft but firm and more inviting as each second passed. To make matters worse, the masculine scent of him had lingered on her pajamas and thoughts of him crept into her mind as she slept. Deciding it was pointless to will away any traces of him, she finally found slumber hours later that night. Each day Carly spent with JC, she'd tried to open her mind a little bit more to who he really was as a person. Her conscience still regretted the way she'd treated him when they first met but she also found it useless to hold onto something in the past. She'd never forget the look in his eyes the night he'd walked out of her hotel room and left her feeling like the biggest jerk in the world, the bitter taste of her words as she swallowed thickly. Since then, he didn't openly give deep down details to his love life but Carly enjoyed learning more about him each time they spoke. Refusing to analyze her feelings for him, she simply enjoyed his friendship and their shared love for music. He brought a sense of comfort to her life. As time went by, Carly began to tuck parts of her passed a little more where they belonged-in her passed and it seemed a little easier to breath. Truth be told, the fact that he was in her hometown and would be calling sometime in the near future seemed to make her work for the day breeze by. Carly couldn't wait to share Chicago with JC and share the best things she found in life with him and see what he thought. She knew he'd appreciate it for what it was. Two days after his surprise visit, his call came just as she was coming back from her morning workout and walking back into the loft. "Hello?" Carly asked as she reached for a bottle of water from the fridge. "Hi honey. Sorry this took longer than I thought but we've been working non-stop. I meant to call you sooner." Carly laughed as she swallowed a big drink of her water. "It's fine JC. You have nothing to apologize for. I take it that it went well?" "Yes. The vibes were great. I really enjoyed myself." "Good, I'm glad." she smiled, even though he couldn't see. His talk on music always made her feel like they shared an odd connection. "Me too. So how have you been? Like I said, I had planned to call sooner. I hope I didn't stop you from working on anything." "No, don't even think that. I've been good. Finishing up some things here and there. Finished my last album shoot for a while so that's a good feeling." "I'm glad, Carly. So yeah, I'm finished for the rest of my stay in Chicago if you wanted to get together." "Yes! I want to take you to a couple places. I'm excited!" JC could here the smile in Carly's voice as she spoke and it warmed him from head to toe. "Name the time and place and I'll be there." he said. "How about I pick you up at you're hotel, say 10:30?" she questioned. "Sounds good. I'm in room 1107." "Okay, see you in a bit. Bye!" ***** Dressed in her usual low rise jeans, a tank top and flip flops, Carly walked down the hallway of the classy hotel until she found JC's room and knocked lightly. She heard the faint sounds of rustling around and laughed quietly as she heard JC curse loudly. Her smile quickly left her features as he opened the door and stepped partially out from behind it clad in nothing but a towel secured tightly around his slender hips. At that moment, Carly forgot her own name. "Sorry. I'm running a little behind. My brother called and wouldn't stop rambling about something that happened last night so I lost track of time. Come on in though and I'll be ready in just a minute." Carly continued to stare, eyes drawn to the masculine chest in from of her. It had been far to long since she'd been in a trance like this and had a beautiful male body for her viewing pleasure. She took in every dip and curve of his muscular stomach and chest, to each vein that ran along his well defined arms. Her eyes moved south to the small trail of hair that dusted his lower abdomen and lead to… "Carly?" he asked, a smirk on his mouth. Shit. She'd been staring. For how long, she didn't know. Carly cleared her throat and blinked quickly before gathering herself together. There was no way to recover from that. "Shit JC, I'm sorry." JC laughed and stepped aside, allowing her in his hotel suit. "It's okay Car, I knew you were checking me out." he winked. Carly didn't even pretend to deny his accusation, still her sassy persona made it's appearance. "Well excuse me. It's not every day I open the door to a half naked man behind it. I am human." she emphasized. "Don't I just know it." he laughed. "Have a seat, I'll be done in five minutes." Carly nodded and took a seat on the couch in his suite. The room was beautiful with modern decor that over looked the city. Still trying to clear her memory JC's naked flesh, her mind had very little time to recover as he stepped out of the bedroom. Dressed in a pair of light weight plaid slacks and a blue t-shirt that sat tightly over his chest, she found herself staring once more. The leather flip flops set off the "preppy" look he had going on, along with the large sunglasses that sat on top of his head as he slid his wallet and hotel key into his pants pocket. JC walked casually and plopped down on the couch next to Carly, her curious gaze following him. "You're doing it again." he remarked playfully. "I um, I'm sorry. You just, you look good." Seriously? What the heck was going on, Carly asked herself. Caught starring, drooling more like it, twice within a ten minute span couldn't be good. She had no idea what had come over her. And to top it off, the second he'd sat down, the woodsy scent of his cologne overtook her senses as her heart skipped a beat. "You're not so bad yourself honey." he winked playfully. Carly found herself grinning flirtatiously, opening herself up to their constant banter and feeding off it. Standing along with him, they walked to the hotel room door and opened it as JC followed close behind. "Okay Chasez, where to first?" *** Carly walked through the endless racks of clothes and tried to find JC in-between all of it. Taking him shopping on Michigan Avenue had been a good idea until he'd decided he was in a shopping mood. Happy to oblige in his sort-of-vacation shopping spree, she tagged along and enjoyed herself. Finally finding him, her arm draped with a couple of t-shirts she'd picked out, she found JC searching through a rack of jackets. Holding it out triumphantly, he awaited Carly's opinion. "What do you think?" "JC, what the hell is that?" she asked, her face full of confusion and disgust. "It's a jacket, Carly." he laughed. "But.. It looks like a jacket with a tail and a sweater attached to it." JC looked disappointed but laughed a little. "So is that a no?" "It's up to you, JC. I'm just here to give my opinion." Carly said as she moved on to a rack of jeans. He sighed and put the jacket back on the rack and moved towards her. "It's a no. I can take a hint." "Hey, you wear what you want. It's none of my business." "I value your opinion Carly." he said as he placed a hand on her shoulder. "Why thank you, JC. It's very important you consult me on your fashion choices to prevent a disaster." He laughed as they continued through the store. "Did you become a fashion expert overnight too?" he said rolling his eyes playfully. "Ha. Nope. I really don't care what people wear as long as they're comfortable. I just draw the line when one of my friends wants to wear something that looks…well, like it did." she said as she grinned playfully at JC. "Yeah yeah, sassy. Where too next?" "Have I killed the shopping vibe?" She asked as she walked towards the counter and placed her t-shirts on it to pay for them. JC stood beside her, waiting to do the same. "No. I just know you were really excited to show me your home and I'm excited to see it. I can shop anytime in LA." "Very true. I haven't decided where to take you next. But you're enjoying yourself?" she questioned. He smiled at her genuinely, his blue eyes holding still with hers. "I'm having the best time. I'm glad I came, Carly." His eyes melted into hers and she tried to ignore the little flip flop her heart did as he smiled softly at her. Carly couldn't help but notice that when she was around JC, she felt as though her world made sense. From all the bad she'd heard about him, none of it seemed to be true. She was glad he'd come into her life. Pushing away her thoughts and confusion, she smiled back at him as he took his bags from the counter and looped his arm through hers, exiting the store. "I'm glad JC. I'm glad you came too." *** Carly took JC everywhere, sharing her favorite parts and pieces of Chicago. She saw a new side of him that day, little bits of a child deep down. He was always willing to goof off and laugh with her, never minding who was overlooking or giving them strange looks. He seemed to enjoy her sense of home and she was happy about that. There final stop for the day had ended at one of her favorite spots, a rarity in her life that she actually shared with anyone. As time ticked by, Carly found herself questioning JC more and more then she felt comfortable doing. Part of her felt she was on the verge or ruining her career since he was such a huge part of what she did and the people that worked in the business but something else in her saw a lonely side to him. Not that in any way her new found friendship was out of guilt, they seemed to compliment one another and for once she decided to take his advice from their chat on her balcony and just live in the moment and not question everything so much.. So that's what Carly did or tried hard to do. Her hair blew softly in the breeze of the Chicago night air as she leaned her elbows on the bridge that over looked the harbor. From a distance, the faint lights inside the boats lit up the lake that night. Carly took a deep breath, engrossed in the smell of summer at night in the city. Opening her eyes, she looked over at JC who seemed to be equally lost in the sights before him. "What do you think?" she asked softly, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. He turned to her smiling. "I love it Carly. I can see why you love Chicago so much." "I do. I come here when I need to think. I've actually wrote a song here once. Several have been written after coming here. It seems to clear my head for some reason. It has a sense of calmness. The air, the breeze. It all puts things in perspective for me. One of natures little simplicities." "You know what I love about you?" he asked turning towards her, his hand coming to cup her cheek casually. Her breathing sped up a little by his touch. "No, what?" she asked. "You love the simplest things in life. You appreciate several things for what they are. I also noticed you have a carefree sense about you. It's something to admire, Carly." She didn't know how to respond so she simply smiled. "Thanks, I think. I love life and living it. You only get to do it once. Why not enjoy it?" "Amen honey." he took his hand down from her cheek and rested it on her shoulder before sliding it over her back, around her shoulders and pulling her against him. Without even thinking, Carly rested her head on his shoulder as he leaned over the short distance and kissed her forehead. Turning as best as she could, she looked up at him. "You're a good guy Jace. I mean it. I'm sorry I misjudged you." "The past is what it is. No sense in looking back but if it's any consolation, thank you. You mean a lot to me Carly. You have helped repair little parts of my heart." "You've done the same for me." she turned and smiled at him, her eyes shiny as the cool air whipped across her face. Taking a deep breath and a huge leap of faith, Carly continued, carefully. "I'm sorry she hurt you, JC. She obviously didn't know a good guy if he bit her in the face." At first he looked at her confused, wondering how she knew. I could see the wheels turning in his head. "How did- who told you?" "Max mentioned something." He nodded slowly before smiling with sad but grateful eyes. He sighed and contemplated his words before he continued. "You're right, Carly. But I deserve better." "You do. I'm just sorry you had to go through that. Your such a great guy." "I loved her with everything in me. I must have been pretty stupid because what hurt the most was having to find out from a fucking tabloid that someone you picture your entire life with is sleeping with someone else. I was so blind, so stupid." Carly noted this hurt and pain in his voice and wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled his small frame against her. "You're not stupid JC. She was too selfish to accept your love in the first place. Everything happens for a reason." He nodded, laying his forehead on her shoulder, breathing in the scent of her soft skin, cooled by the chill of summer. "I haven't dated since then. I miss the little things of being in love." He looked up through glassy eyes. My heart thudded against my chest a little. Exactly what was he getting at? "I'm here JC. Whenever for whatever. Hugs, a shoulder, random kissing challenges." Carly said, in all seriousness and the last part added to make him laugh. His head snapped up and she could tell with the smile spread across his lips that she'd just opened up a can of worms. "Random kissing challenges, eh?" he smirked, as he turned towards her, backing her against the railing of the boardwalk, his hands going directly to Carly's hips. She laughed and rolled her eyes. "I was trying to make you laugh." "I believe you just spouted off options and I got to choose one. And I believe I'd like to go with--." "I was kidding, JC." Carly said but immediately, her eyes darted to his lips. "You mean you haven't thought about the other night at all?" "Um, maybe. Maybe not." she lied. "Am I a bad kisser?" he asked, his hands still casually on her hips, as the breeze moved between them. "No, you know the answer to that, Jace." "Then what's the problem?" "I'm not in any condition to analyze things right now. It's not as if I could kiss you and just forget about JC. This has nothing to do with friends playing some silly little game.We surpassed that the other night." "Who's asking you to forget it, Carly?" "I don't know. I just, it's just that--." He pulled her closer, tipping her chin up his face inching closer as his breath skated over her face softly. "Just what, Carly?" She swallowed thickly, her throat suddenly dry, eyes focused on his lips, how close they were and how soft they felt before. "I don't take random kisses lightly. I'm not one of those girls." "I know you're not Carly. I don't take random kisses lightly either." He pulled her closer to him, his hands inching up the small of her back. Her skin shivered beneath his touch. "It's just-" the words on her lips suddenly faltered and she couldn't continue. "Just what, Carly? Tell me." He asked, his blue eyes staring fiercely into hers. Her mind suddenly blank, and all arguments set aside, Carly lost all train of thought and went with the first thing that came out of mouth. "Just nothing, JC." She waited maybe half a second before his lips moved the short distance and brushed over hers softly. The hand on her back came up to her neck to hold her still as he continued gentle brushes at first, taking her upper lip with his and running the tip of his tongue just underneath it. At her moan, Carly wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer, her lips a full participant in his little game. His became hungrier and he casually slipped his tongue inside the softness of her mouth, her tongue immediately brushing against his. Their lips continued fervently, their tongues mating against one another in a rhythmic dance, until finally air seemed scarce and they pulled back panting. Breathing deeply JC never released his hold on Carly and his forehead rested against hers. His warm breath flitting over her neck is what shook her from the sexual haze of his lips as he spoke softly, almost in a whisper. "Tell me why this feels so good Carly. So right.." She looked up at him, green eyes lingering with confusion. "I don't know JC. I wish I knew myself. But-." She started to continue but his lips halted her, speaking softly against her cheek. "There's always a but, Carly. Don't think so much. Just live in the moment." "I'm trying Jace, trust me on that. There's just some things from my past that I have yet to let go of completely. Some things I have to sort out in my head. I'm sorry." JC nodded, his face trying not show the disappointment he felt deep inside. He released his hold on Carly and took a step back, trying to calm his racing heart and the tingle in his lips that was still there. "It's fine Carly." She could hear the obvious disappointment in his voice. "Jace, I mean it-theirs something I've got to-." Great timing for this, Carly thought annoyed, as her cell phone rang loudly. Where the hell had she put it? Reaching in the back pocket of her jeans, she tried desperately to dig it out of the pocket that seemed deeper than the length of her hand. "Shit, I can't get it." she cursed as it continued to ring loud and obnoxious. JC took a step forward and snaked a hand around her waste, his large hand digging in the slim pocket on her butt. He skillfully pulled the silver object free and couldn't help but bite his tongue as he read the name that flashed brightly across it. Carly smiled greatfully and snatched her phone up quickly, hoping to answer it before whoever was on it hadn't hung up yet. She stepped away from JC, trying to make her voice sound something close to normal, that the tremble she felt had subsided by now. JC watched her curiously, wondering what the hell had just happened in the brief time they'd spent at the one place that was "Carly's piece of serenity." It seemed he'd gone from sharing an important part of himself with her, to joking around about a kiss he hadn't forgotten about, to reliving it once again and the more he kissed her, the more he craved the taste of her lips. The more he found himself addicted to Carly Piper, a women who wouldn't give him the time of day at their first meeting. Each time he spoke with her, a saw a new side and caught a new piece of her personality that drew him to her like moths to a flame. No, he didn't know every little detail about her but he was getting there at a safe and steady speed and he was fine with that. JC never expected his trip to Chicago to turn into what it had but he hoped he could find things out so they'd be able to put things into perspective and that he'd learn about whatever was holding Carly back and right now, the one thing JC needed to know was the relationship with the woman he'd just kissed and the man on the other end of the phone. Before he could think any deeper into the situation, JC turned to see Carly walking shly back to him, a half smile laying across the gentle features of her face. "Do you still want to go back to the loft? I know it's late but I did promise I'd make you at least one dinner while you were here and grace you with my culinary skills." JC looked up, confused that the conversation of them-if their was or would be a them was over. She didn't want to talk about it and he'd have to respect that. He couldn't help the nagging hunch that whoever was on the phone had changed her demeanor. Deciding to make light of the mood, he smiled gratefully. "You mean peanut butter and jelly again?" he teased. Carly laughed and grabbed JC's hand and tugged him along with her as they headed in the direction on home. Once they began walking, all tension seemed to be set aside but JC never let go of Carly's hand, keeping it softly laced with his large fingers feeling the need to somehow be close to her, if only for that moment. Carly didn't protest, so they continued walking, cracking jokes along the way and taking in the hustle of the city at night in the process . ---------------------- JC patted his stomach loudly, doing his best to make what little of it was there stick out and give the affect that he was full. "I do believe you've out done yourself Carly. That's one of the best meals I've had in a long time." She turned from the sink and smiled at him, gracious for his praise. "Why thank you JC. I'm glad I could dazzle you with more then peanut butter and jelly." He stood gathering the dishes from the table and meeting Carly and placing the dirty dishes carefully into the soapy water of the sink. JC looked took in her "comfy" attire as she had called it, of loose fiting black sweats that sat low on her hips and a tight gray t-shirt. Feeling as if the awkward tension had flowed from the night, he bumped his hip into hers and winked when she laughed at him. "Watch yourself, Chasez." "Oh, I'm watching Miss Piper." he mocked back. He turned to grab the glasses they'd used at dinner. "JC, you don't need to help. Take a glass of wine and go relax." she said as she pushed him away gently. Carly had insisted that when they got home, he join her in dressing "comfy" and offered him a pair of her brothers plaid pajama pants and a loose fitting t-shirt she'd stolen from him. He looked adorable. "I want to help. You make this amazing meal. It's the least I can do." "If you insist. Can you grab that bowl for me please?" Carly asked as she took the bowl from JC's hands and placed it in the sink and began to wash it. Once it was rinsed and dried, Carly walked over to a cabinet at the corner of the kitchen and reached up to set it inside, all the while JC's eyes were glued to the obvious part of her exposed stomach where her shirt had ridden up. He swallowed thickly and didn't even feel his feet move up behind her, grabbing the bowl from her hands and setting it inside for her. Carly gasped in surprise as she felt the hard press of his body against her back side, coming off of her tip toes, she grabbed the counter top to steady her. Turing around, she found herself standing centimeters from JC's gorgeous face, his expression hard to read. "Thanks." His lips turned up in a smile but he still didn't move. "Your welcome." JC leaned forward, placing a hand on either side of the counter top behind Carly but leaving his arms spread wide enough that if she wanted to make an escape, she could. Time ticked away and her body never moved an inch. He leaned forward, his lips a mere breath from hers as he asked an important question. "Do I make you nervous, Carly?" She swallowed hard, her eyes never leaving his. "No." He nodded slightly and came a little closer. "Do you want me to take a step back?" He asked. She shook her hed no but aside from that, didn't move. "Do you want me to kiss you again Carly?" He watched her hesitate for a second before she nodded her head yes, not trusting her own voice to speak. JC didn't falter, knowing this was the last thing they should be doing without talking about things but decided to just go for it and act on his sudden feelings for his new found friend. He leaned forward, cupping her jaw in his hand as his lips touched hers cautiously at first but when she made no move of protest, he kissed her deeply, his tongue teasing the seam of her lips right away. She opened graciously to his intrusion and gasped in pleasure. Her hands had moved up to his chest where she was running them up and down his rigid abdomen cautiously. One of his hands grasped her hip and tugged her tightly against him as his tongue stroked her mouth in a heated frenzy. Carly cried out in surprise as she felt herself being lifted off the ground and set on top of the counter, JC making himself comfortable in between her legs. She quickly wrapped her legs around his waist as he ground himself against her, the tension quickly growing beyond a quick kiss. She could feel the hardness of him growing quickly. His lips moved from hers and went directly for her neck, nipping and then soothing the bites with his tongue. Carly titled her head to give him better access as her hands ran through his hair massaging his scalp as she did so. His hand ran up her side, barely grazing the side of her breast as Carly moaned loudly. "Jace…" He continued his torture, his lips moving quickly from her neck to outline the top her shirt. His tongue worked on the swell of her breasts as his hand came up just underneath the hem where he ran his fingers across the satiny feel of her belly. He almost didn't hear her call his name until her hands stilled in his hair. "What baby?" he asked, attacking her neck once more. "We-." she gasped, his hand inching higher up under her shirt and his fingers doing a dance on her nerve endings. "We need to talk." JC stilled, letting out a groan in frustration but calming himself quickly. He hooked his chin over her shoulder and took a deep breath, calming himself as best as he could. He placed three more kisses, starting with her shoulder, moving to her jaw bone and finally placing the last one softly on her lips before he looked into her eyes almost guiltily. "Your right, I'm sorry." he confessed. Carly grabbed his face between her hands, rubbing her thumbs over JC's kissed swollen lips and smiled sadly. "Don't be sorry Jace, just understand why I'm doing this." He nodded and backed away from her, but grasping her hand and giving her room to slid off the counter top. Once she slid down, he racked his hand through his hair nervously. "Does this have anything to do with Parker, Carly?" She looked up at him, almost feeling like she'd hidden something from him. It didn't seem so relevant until that moment. "Yes and no." "I guess we start from the top?" he suggested. Carly nodded and walked into the living room, falling down on the couch. JC followed suit but sat at the other end anxiously waiting her answer. Taking a deep breath and putting on a brave front, she began her explanation. "My boyfriend was killed in a car accident a little over two years ago JC." She didn't miss the hurt reaction that ran over his gorgeous sculpted features. "I'm so sorry Carly. I had no idea-I.." "Just let me finish okay?" at his nod, she continued. "I was a half a second from being engaged to him before he died. My world turned upside down. I'm just now getting the pieces back together." He reached over and grabbed her hand, noting tears swimming in her eyes cautiously as she willed them not to fall. "I'm so sorry, baby." At her nod, she sniffled a little. He felt like a jerk but he had to know. "And Parker?" he swallowed slowly. "Parker was his best friend, a best friend of ours more like. He was driving the car that he and Carter were in. He obviously survied and guilt has ate at him ever since. He's looked after me, has become a really good friend." "He seemed a little more friendly than just a friend, honey." Carly knew she should feel offended but nodded. "He's tried to become more but I brush him off. I welcome his generosity whole heartedly but anything beyond that I feel would be betrayl against Carter. Plus, I'm just not attracted to him like that." JC scooted closer towards her on the wide couch, running a thumb under her eye as a few tears flooded over. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that Carly. No one deserves that. I'm sorry I pushed myself on you. I won't do it ag-." Carly looked up into guilty, sorry eyes and placed a finger over his lips. "Hush JC. You have nothing to apologize for. I'm just not sure how to go about giving my heart to someone again. I know it's been two years but it's just going to take me a little bit to get the swing of this again, trusting someone. This whole song writing thing has become my saving grace. I never planned to meet you and I especially didn't plan on it ending up like this." "You've got a lot to give Carly. I see it in you all the time but I understand. I'll be here. When you're ready or if you decide you want to see where things could go, I'll be here." "I just don't want to be a notch on a bed post Jace. Not saying that's what you're about but I'm going to have reservations. I need to know that this wasn't some 'spur of the moment' experiment thing for you." He grabbed her hand, lacing there fingers together and kissing her knuckles. "It wasn't sweetheart. I feel something between us. Besides the hot make out sessions." he smirked. She nodded and crawled into his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck, her knees on either side of him. "Thank you JC. I'm sorry I'm still sort of a mess about things. You're a good guy though." "Your welcome, Carly." He rubbed his big hands up and down her back as she clung to him. "I assume that since it's so late that you're planning on staying over for a slumber party?" she asked smirking and standing up off the couch. He looked around before laughing slightly. "Of course I'll attend the slumber party." at his confirmation, she held her hand out to him which he readily accepted. Pulling him up the spiral staircase to her bedroom, JC looked around confused that there was only one bed in there. "Um, Carly?" he asked as she pulled the covers back. "Yeah?" "We're um, I mean we're sleeping, I mean-I'm sleeping with you?" "If you want to JC. I'm not offering anything else at the moment besides a sleeping partner but if you're game-." He came up behind her and kissed her cheek before turning down the lamp and crawling into bed, his arms open and waiting for her. "You don't have to explain anything Carly. If you want me here, this is where I want to be." She crawled into her king sized bed and snuggled against his awaiting arms as they wrapped around her tightly. Carly snuggled her head against his shoulder and breathed deep. "Thank you JC. You always seem to know what I need without me even having to say the words. You heal me." JC turned and kissed her forehead softly, rubbing his hands up and down her arms as he held her. "I think we heal each other, baby." he said before he closed his eyes. ----------------- PS, you can also read this story over at the archive. http://nsync-fiction.com/viewstory.php?sid=1003 |

Well my dear Mel...you've done it again. Plus you've given us a little more taste of the 'sexual haze'. Yum! I'm glad to see they both
opened up to each other and that they definitely have chemistry! Steamy kitchen, for sure! And yeah...the last quote was killer. Can't wait for more in the
next chapter. I'm sure it'll only feed the sexual tension.

Okay, here is a massively long update for you. I hope you all enjoy it because I thought for a second it was going to
push me over the edge. Special thanks to my 'muse' because without her, you'd probably be waiting a lot longer to read updates. Anyways, this
chapter goes out to her and the 'silver tie' love
And as always, feedback is a writers best friend.
A Million Faces in a Crowd Chapter 10 The sun rise shown brightly through the large window's of the loft as morning made it's bold appearance as JC peaked an eye open, and immediately covered his face, trying to block out the brightness. He shifted carefully and looked down at the soft weight pressed against him and smiled. Carly lay nestled against his side, her face pressed carefully into his neck as one leg lay carefully in between his, her arms tucked under her chin. JC's arm was draped across her waist, underneath the comforter, holding her close to him. He took in a deep breath and smiled as he ran a hand up her warm back turning to face her. She stirred a little and before he knew it, long lashes had opened up and revealed green eyes that smiled up at him. Her lips were so close to his, looking soft and kissable as she came out from slumber. No longer able to resist, he leaned forward and captured her lips with his, letting them linger for a second before he pulled away and smiled down at her. "Good morning, Carly." he drawled, his voice thick and deep with sleep. She took a second to lick her bottom lip as the taste of him lingered and ran a hand up his face, her palm lingering on his jaw. "Morning Jace." she said, her voice barely above a whisper. He leaned into her hand, enjoying the feel of her skin against his as his hand settled on her hip bone, his thumbs drawing lazy patterns as he went. "How'd you sleep last night?" Carly sighed and gave out a content stretch as she leaned into her bed mate more. "I slept good." she paused and was silent for a second before she continued, her gaze growing serious as the hand on his jaw dropped. "I slept too good. I hate that, Jace. I hate that sometimes I can't sleep for the life of me but having you beside me just puts me at ease and I sleep like a baby. I hate that you smell so good that I crave it and waking up next to you makes me think things I shouldn't be thinking. Things I'm in no position to analyze right now." JC swallowed thickly and tried not to show surprise in his voice as he took in what she just said. Was she saying she was having thoughts of him like he'd hoped? His tongue seemed to stick to the roof of his mouth as he coughed quietly. "Things about us, Carly?" She looked up at him, confused eyes. "Yes." It was one word, a simple declaration that held so much more to it. His heart beat harder, thudding against his chest with that simple confession. Deciding to bypass the long intense chat he knew they'd one day have to have, he decided to spend his last moments in Chicago holding Carly, silently trying to convince her that she didn't have to analyze anything anymore, but it wasn't fair when he was leaving that afternoon and he still had issues to work out himself. "Don't think so much Carly. We'll get there, okay?" He pulled her closer to him her chest to his as he placed her arm around his neck holding her heart to heart. Her head immediately when to his shoulder, silently inhaling his scent that was so uniquely his as his hands began the familiar pattern up and down her back once again. She moaned deep in her throat and JC smiled against her hair. "You still leaving this afternoon?" An empty feeling sat strongly in the pit of his stomach. "Yeah. That's the plan." She nodded, suddenly feeling a loss she couldn't explain. "You want me to make you breakfast before you go? I'll drive you to the airport too." He tucked a flyaway curl around her ear. "Carly, you don't have to do that. You've already done enough." She shook her head as fought the mental argument with herself to stay in the same position but sat up and crawled out of bed. "Don't be silly. Go shower. I'll get breakfast ready and then we'll go back to your hotel and get your stuff and head to the airport." JC suddenly felt as though she'd put up a wall and closed out the possibility of any further conversation concerning the two of them. He wasn't sure how long he'd be able to abide by her rules. It was killing him already with just the loss of her warm body against his. ---------------- "So no word from Max yet?" he asked hopefully. "Nope. Nothing. I know he said he'd call me if their was anything that needed fixed or re-edited or had any new projects for me but I haven't heard anything." JC's brows turned up in disappointment. "You're coming to the release party though right?" "I'm not a hundred percent sure yet Jace. It's a long flight for just a party." He turned towards her and grabbed of her hands. "Carly, you did like 98% of this soundtrack. You should come. You deserve so much of the props, honey." "I'll think about it, okay?" He nodded in agreement pulling his messenger bag up to his shoulder. "I hope you get to LA soon. I'm going to miss you." Carly smiled softly, busing his cheek quickly. "I'll do my best. You better get going before you miss your flight, Jace." He nodded, looking between her and the handle of her car door hesitantly. "Thanks for everything. This was the best time I've had in forever." Carly laughed softly. "Anytime, Chasez." He turned to open the car door, putting one foot on the cement before quickly turning his body back to her and taking her face between his hands. His lips caught hers in surprise as he held onto them, taking gentle sips, swallowing her gasp of surprise as time passed on slowly. Holding her jaw in his palms, his thumbs gently brushed just underneath her green eyes before kissing her one last time. "Bye Carly. I'll talk to you soon, honey." And with that, he turned and exited the car, slamming the door shut and making his way into the airport, flying thousands of miles away from her and leaving her heart with a feeling she knew wouldn't just go away. Carly gripped the steering wheel, glancing forward trying to reassure herself that even if she didn't have answers and he wasn't their with her physically that they'd still have their phone calls. ------------ Only they didn't. Their phone calls became less and less as the weeks went by. Carly had busied herself in her work until the unexpected phone call came that her sister was giving birth, via c-section three hours away. Wanting to be there, Carly had left work behind and packed up to be with her sister and her new niece. In doing so, she had hoped to leave the emptiness that came about as soon as she'd pulled away from the airport only three weeks prior but it had followed her and she knew the one man that would solve that icky feeling, only he was thousands of miles away. -------- JC perched his glasses high on his head as he opened the book to where his bookmark held the page he'd last read. Looking to the right, he glanced out the window at the patches of clouds that slowly passed by the airplane. Having spent a week with his parents, his body felt rested and relaxed and he was happy to be flying back home refreshed and re-energized. His brothers constant rustling prevented him from reading any further as he turned to him with annoyance. "My god Ty. Do you have ants in your pants of something?" He looked over at his brother from the seat behind him. "You know I get antsy on air planes. I can't help it. Why don't we talk or something?" "Talk? Didn't we just spend the last week at home with Mom and Dad talking?" Tyler rolled his eyes as he yanked open the bag of complimentary peanuts and popped a couple in his mouth. "That's different. That was just family stuff. You never did tell me about your random trip to Chicago." "I was working." JC said turning back to his book. "You worked every day for five days straight, huh?" "Cut the third degree Tyler." JC snapped. Tyler shifted in his seat once more. "Fine, cranky pants. Why don't you take a nap or something? You're no fun like this." JC laughed and shook his head. "You're just digging for dirt and I ain't gonna give it to you man." Tyler turned excitedly, hands in his lap. "Oh so theirs dirt?" JC was quick to respond. "I never said that." "But there is. The this have anything to do with the song writer you were telling me about?" JC ran a hand through his hair, calming himself at only the simple mention of Carly. A small smile tugged at his lips and he knew had the look of guilt written all over his face. "Maybe." he whispered. "HA! I thought so. So what's happened?" Tyler asked, ears perked in anticipation. "We hung out and stuff. She took me around the city. I worked and yeah, that's that." "You like her?" JC pinched the bridge of his nose and close his eyes. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I do Ty. But-." "Why is there always a but? Is she taken?" "Not exactly. She was engaged and her fiance was killed in a car accident. She's still healing from that. And I'm not sure if I want my heart out their again, not to mention the fact that she's from Chicago." "Wow, that's tough. So you're both people healing from past tragedies huh? I think you could really be good for one another. And so what if she lives in the Chicago. She comes to LA a lot doesn't she?" "Well, not really but her trips have been more frequent with her getting new producing gigs and stuff." "And when's the last time you spoke to her?" JC took a deep breath before setting his book in his lap and pulling off his glasses. He began to rub his forehead in frustration. "It's been a while. I can't talk to her and not want to say more then I feel like I have the right to. It's a weird mixture of feelings." Tyler nodded in acknowledgment. "Take some time to analyze your feelings and then call her. I don't want you to let getting hurt prevent you from something awesome Jace. She could be so good for you." JC nodded, turning to look out the window at the world below. "I know Ty. Trust me, I know." --------- Carly peered over the crib and reached in to pick up the screaming newborn. Lifting her into her arms and tucking the blanked around the baby's tiny body, she hugged her close to her chest. "Don't cry sweet baby. Aunt Carly's got you. We're trying to let mommy rest." she cooed. She took the short steps to the rocker and placed the baby on her shoulder, rubbing her back up and down soothingly. Her niece yawned quietly as her cries turned into whimpers and quickly subsided. She was so wrapped up her that she didn't even hear her sister pad softly into the baby's bedroom. Carly turned towards the door as her sister walked in. "I've got her Kassidy. You can to go back to bed." Her sister walked further into the room gently rubbing a hand over her daughters wild brown hair. "I wanted to check on my baby girl. I couldn't help it." her sister smiled. "She's too precious. I want to keep her." Carly gushed. "Holding her fits you well Carly. Going to give Ava a cousin anytime soon?" Carly rolled her eyes. "Don't start Kass." Her sister put her and up in defense. "I was just asking. I heard their might be a possible male type specimen in the picture these days." Carly laughed quietly, trying not to disturb the nearly sleeping baby in her arms. "Talked to Cameron recently, eh?" "Well she came to visit a few weeks ago and you know the girl does have a big mouth." Kassidy laughed. Carly laughed along with her. "Yeah she does but I gotta love her." "I'm a little offended Car. You didn't even tell your own sister, your flesh and blood that you're seeing someone. A producer even? And did I hear something about him being a member of Nsync back in the day? You don't keep that from me!" Standing and placing the now sleeping baby in her crib and covering her up, she turned to her sister. "Calm yourself you hormonal teenager. And I'm not dating him. I don't even know what we are. He's just a good friend I guess." "You guess eh? Have you kissed him?" Kassidy asked, her eyes bright with mischief. Carly crossed her arms annoyed and tried not to yell. "KASSIDY! Enough!" "You have. I see it in your eyes. You kissed him and you liked it." "I'm walking away now." Carly said but didn't move. "Stop being stubborn and spill it missy, now." "Ugh, I hate it when you pry. I met him at a showcase I did in LA a while back. I pretty much hated him at first but he kind of clawed his way back in. He's become a good friend. We keep in contact but I haven't talked to him since he left Chicago. I've been busy, as I'm sure he has." "Explain this kiss a little more, please" Kassidy said as they walked out of Ava's bedroom. "At first it was just one of his little games. He's always up to no good. The other few times were, well-I'm not quite sure, but they were hot. I don't want to analyze how he makes me feel. I refused to become addicted to it." "Have you guys talked about it, Carly?" "He brought it up but I kind of stopped it as fast as I could. I don't know if I'm ready to be in a relationship Kass. He's been hurt, I've been hurt. He lives far away, it could ruin my chances of getting bigger jobs with producers and musicians. It's all a big mess." Kassidy took a seat on the couch, following suit of Carly and turned to face her, picking up one of her hands. "Carly, your over thinking all of this. You've got to put Carters death behind you. It was horrible and unfair but you've got to put the passed behind you. You're going to miss out on so much. It never hurts to try things out, test the waters." "He lives in LA though." "Distance is nothing little sis. Not if you truly love each other. It can be done." "Yeah I know Kass. I wish I could stop thinking about him." "Then that right there should be reason enough to do something about it." "Maybe you're right." ----- Carly woke the next morning to the smell of freshly brewed coffee, assuming her brother in law had woke up Ava and her early feeding's to start the morning off right. Padding down the hallway softly, clad in her pink pj pants and tank top she stopped short just in front on her nieces bedroom. Peeking just inside the door, the scene before her made her heart flutter. Her sister was sitting in the rocker, holding Ava close to her chest as she nursed her, her brother in law kneeled down beside Kassidy watching with adored eyes as he'd smile and lean forward, brushing a kiss to his wife's lips lovingly and then run a soft large hand over his daughters hair, grinning ear to ear. Carly bit her lip, trying to will away the emptiness she left as she looked on. A part of her wanted exactly what was standing in front of her, she just wasn't sure if she was willing to put everything on the line to have it. She quickly brushed away the tear that she hadn't even realized had fallen from her green eyes. Ignoring the ringing sound of her cell phone from the guest bedroom, she briskly walked to the bathroom and shut the door, letting out a sigh that held so many emotions, emotions that she realized she'd have to sort out sooner or later. -------- JC stood by the bar, trying to drown out the noisy sounds of the club where the low key release party was being held for the soundtrack he'd worked on. He sipped at his drink glumly as he looked around. He didn't want to be there, didn't want to be dressed up and was about five minutes from walking out the door when a silky pair of arms slipped around his neck and he felt warm lips next to his ear, putting his body into a fit of shivers. "And here I thought this party was going to be boring…" Carly whispered seductively, letting her lips linger for a second. JC turned around quickly, his eyes glittering in the most gorgeous way. She took in his attire for the evening, noting the gray dress slacks, black button down shirt adorned with a silver tie. He looked down right amazing. The flight and last minute trip had been well worth it now, Carly thought to herself. He stood their for a second, unable to move to speak until he opened his arms to her and spoke those three little words that made her heart nearly beat out of her chest. "Come here Honey." he said. Carly immediately made the short journey into his open arms as he wrapped them around her tightly. She laid her head on his shoulder, tilting her nose into his neck and inhaling the scent that could only belong to JC. "I missed you Jace. I missed you a lot." "Me too Carly. So much. I've been so busy that I-." Carly reached up and pressed a small finger to his lips. "Hey you have nothing to explain. I've been busy as I'm sure you have. Your not under any kind of contract to call me Jace." "But I wanted to. Every time I'd get a second free to call, something would come up or I'd catch your voice mail. I just.. I've been thinking about a lot of things." Carly tensed nervously but didn't move out of his embrace. "Yeah?" He cleared his throat and nodded, gazing over her outfit, something he'd never seen her in. She wore black dress pants, with a dark purple high necked halter top. The silky fabric hung loosely around her. Her feet were adorned with black heels and her hair hung freely around her shoulders, golden brown curls cascading around her bare shoulders. "You look good, Carly. Really good." She blushed and suddenly felt warm as his eyes gazed over her, licking his lips for reasons she didn't know. "Thanks JC. Your not so bad yourself." Carly could tell he was about to speak but was interpreted by the deep voice of Max looming large behind her. She jumped back from JC's arms, as if she were caught doing something wrong and tried to put on her best confident smile. "Carly, I'm glad you made it!" Max beamed. "I figured it was the least I could to after putting so much work into the project. I'm happy to be here." he nodded once, taking a sip from his wine glass. "JC, good to see you." "And you as well Max. How are you?" JC asked, shaking his hand. "Doing well. I'm going to go mingle. You two enjoy yourselves." Max winked before he walked away. JC turned to Carly, taking her hand in his. "Come with me for a second. I want to introduce you to someone." Carly nodded and followed JC, her heels clicking on the floor of the club as she walked. They walked over to a small are of black leather couches and small tables sitting in front of them. JC turned to shorter man getting his attention and then back to Carly. "Carly, this is my brother, the ultimate smart ass of west village, Tyler Chasez. Tyler, this is Carly Piper." The both smiled at another, shaking hands courteously. "Nice to meet you Carly. I've heard a lot about you." "Likewise." she smiled, taking a seat beside JC. His hand never left hers and she didn't dare pull away. They chatted casually, taking in the music around them as the night went on. Carly found herself mingling with all of the producers she'd worked with as well as the musicians she had perfected for the soundtrack. It felt good to be in the scene again, speaking of that one thing she loved more then the air she breathed. It had been some time later, her drink had been empty and people had moseyed off in their own separate ways when she felt JC come up behind her, his hand warm and heavy against the small of her back. "Wanna dance, sweetheart?" Carly tilted her head back and smiled. "Sure. I'm not the best dancer though." "This isn't a competition." he laughed as her pulled her to the dance floor, pulling her closer. The evening had died down considerably and the music had lost a little bit of it's boldness, giving it a soft jazz feel. JC's ands immediately went to Carly's hips as hers wrapped around his neck. The scent of them lingering between then. "Having fun?" he asked. Carly nodded, smiling brightly. "A blast Jace. I'm so glad I came." He leaned a little closer. "I am to. More then you'll ever know." He was right against her ear, his voice causing chills to form up her arms as he swayed softly to the music. "But you know what I've wanted to do all night Carly?" he asked, his nose nuzzling her neck. He heard her whimper softly and grinned to himself. "What Jace?" She pleaded. His hands moved up to her sides, stopping swiftly at the top of her ribs, inches away from her breasts as she sagged forward. "I've wanted to kiss the breath out of you ever since I turned around and saw you. To have your body pressed up against mine like it is now. To hear you whimper like you just did, knowing you wanted this too." Carly nearly did sob at his final confession. Her response was one simple word, so powerful and so defining. "Yes." she hissed. Tilting her head back, giving him better access to continue his attack on her heck, his lips were added to the tasks and they walked up her flesh until he was met with her hairline. Moving up to her jaw, his face cupped one side before his lips finally met hers in a bone shattering kiss. He went straight for the kill, his tongue diving into her mouth as she moaned softly against it, thrusting it in and out in the most erotic ways. Carly arched against him, now touching him in every way possible, resting right up against rapidly beating heart. He gently tugged at her lips once more, pulling her upper lip between his and bathing the underside of it with his tongue before pulling away, taking deep gasps of air. "Wow." was all he could say. Carly looked up at him, eyes glassed over with passion. She cleared her throat and her fingers dropped to his shoulders, her forehead resting against the sturdiness of his chest, breathing in deep. "Wow is right." JC ran a hand up her back, trying to calm her as well as himself. He couldn't get the feel of her lips out of his head nor could he push away the set of emotions that were running through him that had began the second he saw her that evening. They moved slowly to the music, neither speaking, just lingering in the silence. Both had things to say but they also knew that this wasn't the time or place. JC barely had time to contemplate the wheels ticking in his head before his brother tapped him on the shoulder, trying to gather his attention. "Jace, I don't mean to interrupt but some guy was looking for you a second ago. Say's he works for some record label and wants to talk to you. I thought it might be important!" He pulled away from Carly for a second, winking at her and smiling softly. "I'll be right back honey." he said as he walked away. She nodded, following Tyler over to the area of couches they'd sat at earlier. ---- JC came back in a rush, an hour later looking around the club anxiously. His eyes went directly to his brother, who was deep in conversation with a blonde, while he sipped his beer. "Ty, have you seen Carly?" He nodded towards his brother. "Yeah, she left. Said she was tiered and she'd talk to you later." JC groaned. "Dammit. Did she say where she was staying?" "No man, I'm sorry." JC nodded, his face furled up in annoyance. He suddenly felt that Carly was running from him. ---- Carly paced her hotel room, clad in gray sweats and black tank top, glancing out the windows of a bustling Los Angeles. It was late and she should have been sleeping, especially with the time difference but her mind lingered on one thing and one thing only. Her cell phone vibrated against the bedside stand and she walked over and glanced at it, smiling at the name that flashed across the screen. "Hello?" she asked. "Carly, I'm sorry it's late. Did I wake you?" she glanced back at the TV that was on before answering. "No Jace. You didn't." "Why'd you leave?" "Tiered I guess." she replied casually. "Want me to let you go?" he asked, hoping she wouldn't say yes. "Not necessarily. It's late. What are you up to?" "Not much really, driving. Sorry it took me forever tonight. The man wouldn't stop talking. I was hoping we could spend a little more time together." "I just kind of felt out of place. Decided to go." "I'm sure you fit right in with those people, Carly. You've just got to give it time." "I know Jace." "You alright? You sound upset, lost or something." "Just thinking." He laughed softly. "About?" He shook his head, even though she couldn't see him. "Stuff." she laughed back. "Do I have to come drag it out of you? Where the heck did Miss Sassy pant's go?" Carly laughed. "She's here Jace. She just had all of her sass taken tonight when someone kissed the breath out of her." JC laughed louder but suddenly became serious again. "Oh yeah?" "Don't fish for compliments. I kind of wanted to talk about that." "Me too." JC whispered. Carly turned as she heard a knock on the door. "Jace, hang on a second okay?" "Alright." he said as he waited. Carly pulled the phone away from her ear and opened the door, her eyes wide with surprise. There JC stood in all of his glory, dressed as he had been at the party that night and looking better than Carly had ever remembered seeing him. At that moment all thoughts, reservations and discussions slipped her mind. He stood their, smiling an innocent grin for a moment before he finally opened his mouth to speak. "You wanted to talk about tonight?" he asked, arching one eye in question. "I'd rather get a quick refresher course before I discuss anything." she said before she shook her head and took a step forward, grabbing the silver tie he wore, she pulled him into her hotel room, slamming the door behind them as she pulled his lips to hers. He gasped in surprise, enjoying the sudden boldness she suddenly had. JC turned her around, backing her against the door as his hands came down to cup her jaw, capturing her lips once again. His mouth took on a mind of it's own, as he had a the party, but he added a sense of softness. His tongue captured hers and they began a mating dance. His hands went under her shoulders as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Carly gasped as he lifted her against the door, her legs immediately wrapping around his slender waist. He pulled his lips away from hers long enough to graze her neck, loving it with his lips and tongue. Carly closed her eyes, moaning softly. He dipped his head down, tracing the scoop of her tank top, hands sneaking up the hem of her shirt as his fingers skillfully grazed her breast. He pulled back, his forehead coming to lay against hers as he whispered a command, his breath falling delicately over Carly's face. "Open your eyes, baby." She opened her eyes to fierce blue ones, gazing back at her. "What Jace?" "We really need to talk, don't you think?" Carly took a deep breath as the sudden sexual haze slowly faded but he was right. She was in no position to go any further, even though her body was telling her differently. "Yeah we do." she nodded, her arms going around him tightly once again, as he pulled them away from the door, her legs still around his waist as he laid them on the bed, JC falling gently on top of her. He groaned at the feel of his hardness pressing in her belly and it only intensified what he really wanted to do. Carly gasped in surprise and suddenly felt guilty. She threw a hand over her eyes in frustration. "I'm sorry. We keep doing this and you're getting no relief from it. Your probably thinking I'm the worlds biggest tease." JC situated himself, resting his chin between her breasts. He pulled her hand away from her face and laced his fingers with hers. "No I don't. You have no reason to be sorry, Carly. If I wanted a good "lay" I could go find any random girl." She blinked back at him, studying his features. "But, I want you. When it's right for the both of us." She brought her free hand to the side of his face, cupping his jaw in her palm. "You want me, Jace? Why, out of all the gorgeous girls here, why me?" He shook his head, "I can't believe you'd even ask me that. You, Carly- are gorgeous." He stood up quickly, removing his clothes in one swift motion, saving his boxers. He watched her eyes go wide, then return to normal as he laid down beside her, pressing a soft kiss to her shoulder. "I swear, you have the silkiest skin." he said, continuing his journey south. He lifted the tank top she wore, exposing her stomach to his hungry eyes and kissed the skin around her belly button. "So soft." he murmured. Carly laughed nervously, pulling his head back as his lips came in contact with the elastic band of her pants. "Jace, stop." "What's wrong honey?" "I'm just not ready to do this." She waved her hand in the air aimlessly, hoping he'd understand. "I have concerns and theirs so many uncertainties between you and I." He looked at her, his face turning serious. "I've been tested Carly. I'd never do something like that to you. He kissed her cheek tenderly. "But if it'd make you feel better, I'll do it again." "I'd like that Jace. Just in case. I'm just not ready to commit to anything. I would even get tested to. It's only fair." He nodded. "So we've got that settled. What else is on your mind?" Carly laughed, then almost wanted to cry with the heaviness that one question held. "Distance. I have no idea what the future holds and if and when I'll be here a lot. I just, I'm not sure about any of this." "Hey now." He sat up, sliding up against the headboard of the bed and pulled her beside him, his arms wrapped tightly around her shoulders. "We can take this slow. I'm not asking you to commit to anything this second. I just, I find myself thinking about you at odd times of the day. I can't even explain what went through my mind when I turned around tonight and you were there. God Carly, it's like everything in my world for that moment was right. Like you were there and all I wanted was you. Ever since I've met you, you've put this new perspective in my life again. When I went through the whole deal with my ex, I'll admit- I was a mess. I pretty much gave up on everything. I hid in my music like a zombie. Like you said the night I left Chicago, I heal you and you heal me. I feel something with you that I thought I'd shut out of my life Carly. I think we owe it to ourselves to try. Your this gorgeous, sassy songwriter slash producer from Chicago that's made me see things a different way. I just want a chance. A chance at loving someone again." He looked into her eyes as she blinked and found them flooding with tears. He ran the pad of his thumb underneath them, carefully whipping them away. "Wow. You're always so sure of everything Jace. But you're right. You've healed me in ways I never knew possible. I just need to catch up on other aspects" He smiled, cupping her chin. "I'll be here sweetheart. I promise." "How are you so great? I don't get it. I've never met anyone like you." JC grinned great big, pulling her closer to him in the process. "Is that a good thing?" She shoved at his chest, but only ended up on top of him as he moved to lay down flat in the bed, laughing in the process as he followed suit. "Yes Jace. It's a good thing. You've got this patience with people that I've never known anyone to have. You mean well most of the time." His hands came up to cup her face as her hair cascaded around them. "The way you kiss should be illegal. It turns me into a pool of goo and I hate that, I hate not being in control. I hate the fact that I'd rather sleep in your arms then anywhere else. And the fact that you smell so dang good, all the time probably without even trying. And now you've stripped down to nearly nothing looking like sex on a platter and here I am being little miss do-the-right-thing." He laughed at that reaching up to kiss her long and deep. "Sex on a platter, eh? Want me to find a 24 hour place that does those kind of tests? Because I will when you put it that way, not that I can't say the same about you Miss Piper." Pulling away she settled down on his chest as he reached down and pulled the covers over them, shutting off the bedside lamp. He turned and bused her forehead, content with where he was. "Don't tempt me Chasez." she warned. "I'd never do that. Night honey." She tucked herself against his neck and breathed in deep, taking pleasure and comfort in the scent she could only find there. "Night Jace." His big hands stilled on her back. "Can I tell you something without you freaking out?" "What's that?" she questioned. "I just wanted to say, that as a person and for everything you are and what we could become-." Carly interrupted JC, turning in his arms as she rolled over and kissed him fervently. "I love you too, Jace." He pulled away, his eyes wide an grinning like a child. "I do honey. A lot." Her mind had finally settled and her nerves calmed considerably after her conversation with JC. Finally deciding it was alright to put the past behind her and give those wonderful things in life another chance, Carly placed her hand on JC's chest, feeling the strong heartbeat beneath it and suddenly felt she had what it took. She was ready to began new chapter in her life and had a feeling, miles or not, JC would be closely by her side.

Hey everyone. Sorry it's been a while. I've been fiddling with a couple ideas with this story and in between that I hit a little bit of writers block.
I hope your all still reading. If you are, please review! It goes a long way.
A Million Faces in a Crowd Chapter 11 Carly woke to the bright Los Angeles sun filling the room of her hotel room. Tucked tightly against her bedmate, she stared at him as he slept on. Last nights evens came flooding back into her memory, all vivid and screaming but she quickly calmed herself. Things with JC had just taken on the roll of complicated and confusing. It seemed all relationships were like that at some point and time but this, this was different. She was a born and raised Midwestern girl, not used to the hustle and bustle of LA and in a matter of months, she'd been swept into a world that was nothing like her own. Knowing she'd never fit in as a true LA girl, she found her relationship with JC harder to even fathom in terms of reality. She didn't want to stick around and be his "LA screw", just a convenient romp whenever she was working there, but main thing she didn't want to lose was her professionalism. She'd worked to hard to get to where she was to just throw it all away for 'some producer' even though she knew JC meant so much more to her then that. Carly valued her friendship with him and found that each time she spent with JC, in or out of the studio that she liked him more as a person. So far he'd proved to be sweet and understanding, a little shy at times but never held back to what he was feeling. If it all ended tomorrow and she never stepped foot in California again, she wanted to at least leave with knowing JC would always be a friend to her. People like him were something you didn't just throw away. But in the end, there was always that fine line you crossed between being a friend, and being a lover. Propping herself up on an elbow, Carly took the time to inspect JC from a closer level. He slept on, one arm to his side, the other had been firmly wrapped around her shoulders. His chiseled cheekbones set the structure of his face and made him look unlike any man she'd ever found herself in bed with, not their had been many. His lips were slightly parted as he breathed in and out softly. Her eyes ventured lower to where half his chest was bare, where the comforter had fallen down. Carly took the opportunity to run her hand up it, testing the feel where it was lightly sprinkled with hair. From there her hands ran up his shoulders, all muscular and strong. Cautiously, she traced his jaw with her fingers, traveling over his soft lips. He smiled at her touch and felt his lips kiss her finger back. Gasping, she pulled them away only to see his blue eyes opening, full of sleep but grinning up at her. "What are you doing to me?" he laughed, his voice thick with sleep. Carly felt her cheeks turn pink but knew she had nothing to be ashamed of. "Just getting a closer look. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." He grabbed the hand that had been touching him only seconds before and laced his fingers with hers. "Don't apologize, honey." He stated, running his thumb over her fingers in a circular motion. "Okay, I won't" He pulled her back down next to him, tucking her head against his chest where he then tipped her chin up, kissing her softly. He smiled into the kiss, happy to be where he was. "Now that's more like it. Good morning, Carly. How did you sleep?" She looked up at him, eyes dazed and clouded over. "I slept good, as I usually do when I'm around you for some reason." His grin was cocky and every bit male. "What can I say? I guess I just have a gift." Carly rolled her eyes and smacked his chest playfully. "Whatever, Chasez. Don't flatter yourself. You might strain something." JC laughed and sat up against the headboard, stretching as he went. "Ouch. Looks like the sassy Miss Piper is back." Carly followed him, taking the opportunity to straddle his lap and sit down with heavy plop, causing JC to groan out loud. He swallowed, wondering what she had up her sleeve. "You asked for it, Chasez." "Yeah yeah. As always. So I never got around to asking last night. How long are you here for?" He ran his hands up her back, stopping them on the lower part and locking his hands together there. "Honestly, I have no idea. I just booked a one way flight once I decided to drag myself to the release party and figured I'd play it by ear once I got here." JC grinned and leaned in close, his lips almost touching hers. "Are you saying I get to keep you for a while?" Carly grinned. "Perhaps." JC sighed. "Say more things in that direction." "Maybe, possibly…" JC scoffed and began to nip at her neck, causing her to bust out laughing. "More towards the possibly direction." Finally deciding he'd had enough torture, Carly pulled his head back so she could look directly at him and brought his lips to hers in a slow, deep kiss. Pulling her head back finally, her passion filled eyes met his, smiling seriously. "Yes." His grin went as high as she'd seen in and it made her heart flutter. Pulling her closer to him, he wrapped his arms around her, holding her heart to his. He kissed her once more, a simple soft and sweet gesture of thanks. "I'm glad honey. I want to spend time with you. Why don't you just check out of here and come stay with me for a while? I told you I wanted to show you LA sometime." "Jace…" The thought of staying with JC, in his house scared the shit out of her. She didn't know where things were going but knew she'd never make a rationalized decision if she were tempted twenty-four seven. "Relax Carly. I'm not going to jump you. We're friends too you know." He pulled a part and sat up, but still keeping her close to him. "I know that. It's just.. I don't know. It's all so sudden. I don't want to tumble into this and make a wrong decision." "Then think about it. It could be good for you to relax for a bit. Don't even lie and tell me you haven't been working constantly. You could use a break here and there." Deep down, Carly knew the longer she stayed, the harder it'd be to leave and the more her heart would out weigh her final decision on what it meant for the two of them and what it would all come down to. Just for now, she decided to ignore her mind and enjoy the time she spent in LA with JC, giving it a chance to see where it could go. It'd be like a vacation of sorts like he said, a refreshing of souls and trip down a road she hadn't taken in a while and that involved letting someone else get close to her heart. ***** Carly looked around hesitantly as JC led her up to the steps of his house. He insisted she come over and they spend the day together but for some reason she couldn't stop the nervous feeling that kept nagging her. Crossing the line of stepping foot into JC's home just seemed to make things more set in stone. As lame as it sounded, a person's home opened you up to more information than one would have thought. His life was behind these walls, as well as secrets and memories and ahh heck, Carly had had enough. JC tugged her along and gave her a wink, trying to reassure her that he didn't have any kind of weird things laying around and wasn't going to murder her. Sometimes it bothered her that he read her so clearly, almost as if he'd say the things he knew she never would. "Come on honey, I swear it's just a house. Stop worrying." he said as he unlocked the door. She was quick to answer, denying he was right. "I'm not scared." she tipped her chin up in a prideful notch. "I just don't want your brother assuming things about me." JC chuckled. "Like what? That I stayed with you last night and we make wild passionate love all night long?" "Gee, way to go for the kill!" she rolled her eyes at him and followed him into the house. He led her into the kitchen and tossed his keys on the counter, pulling her into him before he kissed her forehead. "Don't worry about Tyler, Carly. He told me already that he thinks your cool and I promise I haven't said a word about you that would make him think anything of the sort." "Good. I'm not a whore and I'd appreciate it if all of LA didn't think so. Believe it or not, not everyone in this city is the same." "I know that Carly. Really, don't even worry about it. Do you want something to drink?" he asked walking towards the fridge. He pulled out two bottles of water and handed one to her before he took her hand and led her down the hallway. "I hope you don't mind but I'd really like to take a quick shower and change seeing how I'm in the same clothes from last night." "Sure. I can just wait out here." "Don't be silly. My bedroom has a bathroom in it. You can watch TV in there or something while you wait. I promise I'll be quick." "Okay. If you say so." she said as she followed him to his room. She took in the king size bed and the natural blue colors his room was decorated in. It certainly didn't look anything like she'd expected. The room honestly looked homey and relaxing. She was deep in though but his comment quickly knocked her from her reverie. "Well unless you wanted to join me." he smirked, tugging at his tie to remove it, along with his shirt and kicking off his shoes. Carly rolled her eyes, seriously considering the idea but she knew in the end, it'd only make things more difficult and leave JC in more pain that it did herself. "Don't tempt me, Chasez." she took a seat on the edge of his large bed. "Be tempted Miss Parker." he walked over to her, handing her the remote to his flat screen TV and clicking it on for her. He placed a quick kiss on her uncertain face, trying to sooth away her worry lines. "Remote. I'll be just a few minutes. Holler if you need me or feel free to jump in too." he sent a wink over his shoulder before walking to the bathroom door and closing it. Carly shook her head but couldn't help but to smile at his antics. She wondered what it would be like to toss all her worries aside and just go with it for once. She knew she was attracted to JC and that he was attracted to her but the adult in her just couldn't break that boundary until she knew this was what she wanted and was one hundred percent sure he was clean. It only took a second and one wrong decision to ruin things. She'd watched it happen to friends of hers. She decided against her nagging thoughts and flipped through the channels finally settling on an older episode of friends, her favorite past time. It wasn't long before the door JC had exited through opened up and a thick gust of steam escaped and a gorgeous looking JC, clad in nothing but a towel entered the bedroom. Dang him, she thought. Any female would have to blind to notice him. He smiled softly at her before going into his walk-in closet and appearing a short time later dressed in loose fitting jeans and plain tight gray t-shirt. He left his feet bare and his hair had looked gorgeously damp and touchable. He reached for her hand, setting the remote aside and gently tugged her towards the door. "Told you I wouldn't be long. Come on. I'm taking you on a tour of my house." JC walked all around his home, showing Carly all the typical areas. He watched as she took in each room, her eyes widening at times. He could have swore he saw her drool a little at the black baby grand piano that sat just before the living room, over looking all of Hollywood. He watched her spaz out, as he knew she would when he showed her his balcony. It took her several moments to regain the strength to talk, noting the fact that she was truly speechless. A phase he didn't think Carly knew but he simply smiled at her appreciation for nature and all the things it had to offer. He saved his studio for last, knowing out of all people, Carly would appreciate it the most. He led her down the stairs and into a little room at the end of them and watched as she took it all in. "So here we have, my home away from home." He took a seat in the black computer chair watching her take it all in. Carly looked around cautiously, doing the same. She noted he had several keyboards laying around as well as guitars laying neatly in stands against the wall. "This is awesome, Jace. I'm jealous!" She didn't know where to sit so finally decided to walk over to the black leather couch tucked against the far wall. Everything looked so expensive, she feared breaking it. "You know you're welcome here anytime." "I'll keep that in mind. So are you going to play me something Mr. Producer?" "Pshh, look who's talking. I guess I can dazzle you with something if I have to." he clicked on the computer in front of him and chose his track carefully. "This is a demo I just finished for someone." Carly listened eagerly, taking in the smooth tone of his voice. It immediately brought chills to her skin that she didn't expect. She'd heard him sing before nothing like his. His voice took on a bit of fierceness that eventually ended on a softer note. The message was clear that someone had done him wrong and left him hurt. She simply stared in awe as he moved back and forth in his chair, nervously running his hands up and down his jeans. "Is speechless a good sign?" he asked, giving off a nervous chuckle. "Yes. That was amazing Jace. I've got chills!" "Thanks honey. That means a lot coming from you." She got up and walked towards him, taking a seat on his lap encircling his neck and staring down at him. "I still don't understand why a man with the talent and a voice like that isn't making music by himself for the world to hear." His face suddenly went solemn. "That was the past. I'm fine where I am now." Carly took his face in her hands. "Hey, you are amazing JC. You've got this talent that not a lot of artists out there have. I think you lost confidence in yourself. You just need to gain in back. Whatever happened back then couldn't have been that bad." He shook his head, trying to surpass the conversation. "I don't wanna think about that right now. I'm more interested in what just crawled into my lap." he smirked, moving his hands up her back, caressing her skin. "Oh yeah?" Carly smiled, raising an eye brow. His lips moved to her neck, nipping softly at the skin he found there. Moving up to her lips, he caught them between his own, taking control and showing no intention of letting up. Carly did her best to turn in his lap, becoming a full participant and diving her hands into his still damp curls. She pulled a part, smirking at him. "Way to change the subject, Chasez." He silenced her quickly with two long fingers. "Less talking, more kissing." he hauled her against him, trying to get her closer. He let out a groan of frustration when it proved impossible for Carly to turn in the position she was sitting in to maneuver in a computer chair. Taking matters into his own hands, he wrapped his arms around her waist and stood, carrying her with him before pinning her down on the couch across the room. Carly giggled as he began his assault again, going right for her chest and moving to nip at her ear lobe. "I thought we discussed this JC. This isn't going to be comfortable for you." He pulled away from her for a second, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and gazing softly into her eyes. "Stop thinking this is all about sex, Carly. How many times do I have to tell you that's not what I'm all about? Has it ever occurred to you that maybe I like kissing you or just being close to you? We can stop if you want." He pulled back a little but still remained close. Carly suddenly felt like a jerk but thought it was only fair to remind him that where they were headed wouldn't have the final outcome he'd hoped for. She saw more and more of a hurt and lonely man in JC at that moment and in the short time she'd come to his house. Looking into his eyes, such a fierce shade of blue, she decided to throw logic out the window and let him feel what he wanted. She felt it to, in each brush of his lips and each sweep of his fingers. Carefully she traced the features of his face once again as she had while he slept and kissed him softly once. "I'm sorry JC. I'm just not used to men having restraint on things like this." she kissed him again, this time letting her lips linger a little longer then the time before. "And I like kissing you too, and being close to you." She could feel him smile against her lips. "But this is all so confusing too and we're about to make things a lot more complicated." "Why does everything have to be complicated? Let's not over think this Carly. Just live in the moment. For once, don't second guess this." "Alright Jace. One on condition." Carly kissed him quickly, looking up at him to make sure she had his full attention. "Later, we're going to talk about things. Please don't shut me out." JC suddenly felt defeated. Laying his head down on her chest, he kissed the skin reveled by the scoop of her tank top. "You mean you want to hear why I don't sing anymore don't' you?" It was a simple confirmation. "Yes." "Give me time Carly. It's a part of me I've tucked away." "I'm right here Jace. I'm not going anywhere." "Good. It's where I need you to be." He moved deeper into her awaiting embrace as Carly's arms came around him, holding him close, trying to absorb this new side of him. It was then she knew that whatever had happened with his music was a sore spot in his past. She wondered if her confidence in him could give him a new outlook and encourage JC to rethink things in the present. She'd witnessed his talent first hand, now it was time for JC to see it for himself. |

A Million Faces in a Crowd
Chapter 12 "You brought your camera right?" JC asked Carly from her position on the couch as he emerged from his bedroom decked out in dark sunglasses, jeans and green t-shirt. "Yeah, I brought it. Why?" she looked at him confused. "Grab it. I'm going to take you somewhere." he smiled, walking over and grabbing her hand. "I promise you'll like it." She looked at him, confused. "If you say so." *** Carly sat quietly in the passenger seat of JC's car, taking in the scenery around her. The music from the radio played a soft jazz song, setting a quiet mood for their drive. Suddenly out of her zone, Carly noticed the car ascending up a hill, not having a clue where they were going. JC had said he had wanted to 'show her LA' and she was honestly excited to let him. When the car came to a halt, he quickly got out and rounded it, opening her door and reaching for her hand. "Close your eyes." "Yeah right, JC. Who knows where we are." he rolled his eyes and chuckled softly. "Oh please Carly. I'm not going to let anything happen to you. Just humor me for ten seconds and do it." Sighing she closed her eyes and reached for her camera bag and his outstretched hand. "Don't throw me off a cliff, Chasez." JC laughed as they continued to walk down a dirt path until he stopped. "I'm appalled you'd think I'd ever do that to you but I suppose I'll let it slide. Open your eyes, Carly." Carly opened her eyes, and gasped at the view that met her eyes. She was standing on the edge of a fenced cliff, up high and down below lie the most gorgeous view of the ocean she'd ever seen. Palm trees off into the distance set the tone for the blue and white waves that crashed together down below. She didn't know what to say, and couldn't make the right words meet her lips so she just simply stared, wide eyed and mouth open in awe. "I take it silence is a good thing?" JC asked after a while. Carly turned to him, smiling wide, as he noticed her eyes were slightly shiny. Suddenly she sat her camera down and launched herself towards him, her arms wrapping around his neck in a tight hug. "This is amazing Jace. I don't even know what to say. It's just gorgeous. Thank you so much for bringing me here." He smiled, placing a soft kiss on her forehead. "I knew how much you liked your scenery and seeing new places. I couldn't not bring you here. It's one of my favorites." Carly reached down, grabbing her camera out of the bag as she turned it on. "Thank you again." she smiled, at walked forward, already beginning her photo session. "Your welcome, Carly." he watched as she adjusted the settings on her lens and began snapping away. He couldn't help but smile. The girl certainly did appreciate things like this. "Will I be seeing one of these photos on the 'famous wall' of case de, Carly?" She turned to him and smiled. "Yes, you probably will. I'm in awe. I could sit here forever." "Ever considered moving to LA?" Carly stopped what she was doing and turned to look at JC, confusion written on her face. "Not really, no." Her answer was simple, but still it hurt JC a little bit. It'd certainly make the theory of 'them' a little easier to fathom. "Really? I bet you'd do really well here Carly. You know you're already making a name for yourself with producing." She turned to him, her eyes firm and somber. "I can't leave Chicago JC. My whole life is there." He nodded, but then hung his head. He decided not to press the issue. In the back of his mind, he wondered if he'd be enough to make Carly stay. It was only her first week in California with him and he was already dreading the day she left. "Wanna go down the beach?" Carly's eyes lit up as she smiled, placing her camera back in the case and draping it over her shoulder. "Yes! Let's go." JC led Carly down the cement steps that led to the wide open beach. Once her feet touched the sand, it seemed she took on a whole new persona. JC laughed as she kicked off her flip flops and hiked up her jeans to her knees and ran happily into the surf. He followed slowly behind, laughing at her child like antics. It was nice to see Carly enjoy something and not always have up that protective wall he feared she sometimes carried. He was seeing her in a whole new light and loving her inner child. "Having fun?" "You have no idea, JC. I changed my mind. I'm never leaving LA. I'm staying right here." "You might get kind of cold, honey." "I don't even care. I'm staying put!" she said as she continued to walk down the shore. "Seashells! I need to get some to take home. I want to remember this." JC smiled, catching up beside her. "I'll help, you look." "Thanks. Oh hey, here's a bunch!" Carly began picking up her newly found treasures until she felt a splash of water hit the side of her face. "Oh tell me that wasn't you!" JC met her eyes and flashed a million dollar innocent smile. "What are you talking about?" he asked as he watched her eyes turn dark with the beginning signs of anger. "Don't try to sweet talk me, Chasez. You will only go down the hard way." "Here comes Miss Smarty pants. I smell a challenge. In that case.." JC thought for a quick second before he dipped his hand in the shallow water and splashed Carly, sending water up the back of her shirt. He couldn't hold back his laughter once he heard her scoff. "You're so dead, Chasez." JC took off running down the shore, Carly hot on his heels as a cold splash of water covered him from head to toe. Not long after that, he felt himself hit the water in a large splash and was met with the sweet weight of Carly on top of him. He laughed, seeing the pissed off look on her face and couldn't help but smile. She looked so adorable when she was mad. The persona fit her perfectly but even JC knew she put up a front most of the time. Still wanting to own up to her punishment, he hit the water with a loud "Ugh." Carly smiled evilly in return. "It's just water." he snickered. "Do I look like I wanted to get wet?" she challenged. JC bit his lip, trying not to laugh. "You're a sick man JC." He let out a full laugh as he sat up, Carly still laying on top of him. "I didn't say a word!" he said, holding his hands up in defeat. "But if you wanted to tackle me down here for a reason, all you had to do is ask." Carly finally laughed, deciding she got her revenge. "Oh baby, yes. Take me now, here on this gorgeous beach in broad day light. I'm sure no one will mind that I just can't keep my hands off of you." JC stood up, pulling Carly along with him. "Fine. Bruise my ego. I'm used to it." Carly followed him to the sand as he sat down, dripping wet along with him and saw something sad in his eyes. Had she really offended him by what she said? She knew he'd had his share of girlfriends and they had all apparently ended badly. Maybe what he needed was someone who could show him they couldn't keep their hands off of him. If truth be told, she was feeling exactly that. She just didn't want to start something they couldn't finish and there were still about a hundred kinks she'd yet to sort out in her head about the possibility of her and JC ever being something. Still she felt the need to reassure him, not out of pity but out of the love she honestly felt for him. He had removed his sunglasses, finding it pointless to dry them off as the rest of him was soaking wet and placed them on top of his head. Taking a leap of faith, Carly sat up on her knees and then moved her legs to straddle his lap, catching him off guard. Cupping his face in her hands, she made sure his eyes were looking into hers. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that." He interrupted her, trying to speak. "Carly, it's fi-." She placed a finger to his lips, silencing him. "No, let me finish. I need to say I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you. Here you are, being amazing, taking me to places I've never seen and I have to be a brat. I don't always know how to balance my moods and I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you earlier either but I think you need to know that if you're referring to your crap record with women, they must have not had a brain. You are without a doubt, one of the sexiest men I've ever laid my eyes on. You're kind, you care about people. You're patient. And yes, I do hold myself back from attacking you most of the time but you know the reasons why. It has nothing to do with you. I said we need to take things slow and see where they could go but you've forced me to forget about my plan for now just to reassure you." Carly wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing the spot just below his ear. "I guess I'll just have to molest you right here on the beach." She whispered. JC groaned, tilting his head back. "You don't need to do this honey." She moved her lips up his jaw, feeling the his stubble against her skin. She pulled back, staring down at him. "You don't like?" He laughed, looking at her with wide eyes. "That's not what I said. I just mean you're doing this for the wrong reasons." Carly shook her head. "You're wrong. Maybe I've wanted to do it all day but I didn't know how to go about it. Maybe you dripping with ocean water turns me on. Maybe I forgot what your lips felt like and wanted to be reminded. Maybe I'm falling hard for you and don't know how to stop it." Each confession was declared with a kiss somewhere on his face. JC placed his hands on her sides, holding her close to him. "What if I said I felt the same and didn't want you to try to stop it? That if we're going to fall, it might as well be together?" Her lips were a breath away from his and it seemed at that moment that everything around her went to a stand still. All she could hear were the waves crashing around her, the seagulls in the distance and hard thud of their hearts beating as one as they held each other close. "It's going to be hard." JC nodded. "I know that." He kissed each of her eye lids. "But we'll never know unless we try." Carly laid her head on his shoulder. "I can be difficult Jace. I'm not going to say I'll always be that loveable. I'm a typical woman. I go through moods, I change my mind a lot and don't always know what I want. I can be a bitch too." He laughed again, running his hands through her damp hair. "So you're human. I do prefer to date women of that species." Carly let out a shaky breath, partially from being cold and partially from the heavy conversation they were having. She had no idea that saying what she had would go this far. "Cold honey?" She nodded, feeling him pull his arms closer around her. "I don't know what to say anymore. I've lost my train of thought." Carly turned and settled herself in between his legs, her back to his front. Immediately JC's long arms closed around her, still holding her close. "It's alright to not know what to say. Just enjoy the moment." Carly nodded and smiled, tipping her head back to meet his eyes. "I'm going to. Thank you for bringing me here, for showing me this place. It's the best." JC smiled back, kissing her, letting his lips linger for a second. "You're welcome. I knew you'd appreciate this." "I really do Jace. You have no idea how much." *** JC and Carly walked through the front door and into the kitchen to see Tyler sitting at the island typing away at his laptop. He looked at the two strangely noting their soaked state. "What happened?" he asked as JC opened the refrigerator. "We went down the beach. I started it. I'll admit." JC confessed winking at Carly. "Do I even want to know?" Tyler chuckled. Carly was quick to defend, fearing he would think less of her. She didn't know why but she felt the need to make herself clear. "Yes. There's no secret. I was looking for sea shells when someone had to pretend they were five and splash me." JC laughed and took a sip from his pop can. "Whatever. You got me back for that. She knocked my flat on my ass. In the water non the less." Tyler turned to Carly, holding his hand up waiting for a high five. "Can't say I blame her." "Yeah yeah. Go ahead and gang up on me." "So what are you guys going to do for dinner? I didn't know what you all were up to so I ordered a pizza. You're welcome to join me." JC turned to Carly, asking for her opinion. She smiled brightly at him. "Pizza sounds great, Jace. I just want to change out of these wet close before." "I do too. Sounds good Ty. We'll be back in a few." Tyler nodded, going back to his laptop. "It'll probably be here in about ten minutes." "Cool. We'll be right back." He nodded as he watched the pair walk down the hallway, Carly's hand placed firmly in JC's. Something had changed between the two of them in the two short days Carly had been in LA. He was beginning to think she was just what his big brother needed to get out of his funk and make him see that it was possible for someone to faithfully love him once again. *** Carly followed JC into his bedroom, going for her suitcase that sat on the tan couch next to the window. Once JC had grabbed his clothes from his dresser, he disappeared into the connecting bathroom. Carly figured that's where he was going to change and began undressing herself. As she was about to pull her gray sports bra over her head, JC came out of the bathroom fully dressed in cargo shorts and a v neck tee and staring like a deer caught in headlights at the site that greeted him. Carly turned quickly but didn't yell at him. "Shit Carly. I'm sorry." She turned her back towards him, quickly pulling her bra down before she turned back to him. "Don't worry about it Jace." He was surprised. The old Carly would have blown a blood vessel. Still he couldn't help but stare. He knew she worked out and from what he'd seen, it proved to be very true. Her body drew him like a moth to a flame. Carly reached into her suitcase and pulled a black tank top over her head, followed by a pair of gray cotton shorts. She looked adorable and comfy all at the same time. Walking passed him from his spot on the edge of the bed, she tapped his chin gently. "Close your mouth Jace. Flies will end up in there." He straightened, grabbing her hand and pulling her close to him. "You're gorgeous, Carly. Any man would have to be blind to not want you." She smiled an accepted his embrace. "I can say the same for you, stud but in your case, women would have to be blind." JC kissed her softly, taking small sips of her as he she melted against him. "I'm going to get tested as soon as possible." He mumbled. Carly laughed, pushing away from him enough to meet his eyes. "Somebody's eager." JC looked at her seriously. "It's not just sex Carly. You and I both know it's more than that." She nodded her head, laying it on his shoulder as his arms came around her in that protective mode that he was so good at. He always seemed to know when she was feeling vulnerable and when she needed held. His instincts had been great thus far. They seemed to compliment each other in more ways than one. They stood there in silence, bare footed and wrapped in one another until they heard Tyler yell down the hallway. "Pizza's here guys." Reluctantly, they pulled apart walking out the door and down the hall, into the kitchen. *** After an easy dinner of harmless banter and witty joking, JC had insisted on helping Tyler clean up the kitchen, but not before shooing Carly away and insisting she was a guest and didn't need to help. A half hour later, he found her outside on the balcony, a notebook and pen beside her, and one of his guitars she had asked to borrow close by also. She looked peaceful. Sitting Indian style, her neatly pink painted toe nails stuck out as she wore a contemplating look on her beautiful face. "Am I interrupting?" She looked up and smiled. "Of course not. Just in a zone. Have a seat." he took a seat beside her and patted her knee gently. She reached over and did the same but quickly went back to her notebook, scribbling lyrics aimlessly. "How was cleaning up dinner with Tyler?" JC made a face and rolled his eyes. "Just lovely. He grilled me for information about you but he really likes you Carly. I don't think he shut up the entire time I was in there." She laughed and looked at him funny. "I guess that's a good thing?" "Well yeah. It makes things easier when my brother likes my- um," JC stuttered, his cheeks turning pink. Carly laughed as he gave her a helpless look in return. "You don't have to put a label on us JC. We'll get there, okay? For now we'll just say we're two really close friends who want to see where their relationship could go. Sound good?" He let out a woosh of air. "Yeah, that sounds good." She winked at him. "I really need to call and check in with my sister. I didn't tell her I was coming to LA and I'm sure she's blowing a gasket somewhere. I need to check on my sweet Ava baby too." JC looked confused. "Baby?" Carly grinned evilly and decided to feed him the bait. "Yes JC. I thought you knew I had a baby daughter." At his blank expression she burst out laughing. "Oh gosh, Chasez! I'm kidding. You should have seen your face go three shades of white. I'm talking about my niece. She's about a month old." "You're evil, Carly Piper." She batted her eyelashes prettily as he shook his head. "You love me." "Can't help but not." Carly got serious, moving her face a small fraction from his. Her eyes staring directly at his lips. For some reason, she wanted to kiss him at that very moment. "Would you still want to be with me, even if I had a kid JC?" He pulled back, looking at her even more confused then before. "Of course I would, Carly. I'm not looking to pick apart the pieces I like about you. I want you, warts and all. Flaws and scars. I'm slowing becoming addicted to the entire package." She smiled, cupping his face in her hands, kissing him and pulling him closer to deepen it. When she felt his tongue invade her mouth, she moaned against his lips and became a full participant. Her hands dove into his hair scraping her nails against his scalp before pulling away for a second for a quick breath. "Jace, this isn't fair for either of us." Letting out an annoyed grunt, he rested his head against her bare shoulder and tried to calm his breathing. "I know. Trust me, I know." "Maybe it'd be better if I left so we weren't tempted." JC stood up, lacing his fingers with hers and kissing her knuckles. "No honey. I'm enjoying spending this time with you. We need to get to know each other. I refuse to base our relationship on a few meetings here and there or some odd amount of time spent working together in the studio. I'd rather not be allowed to kiss you again then not see you, spend time with you." Carly's eyes stared back into his, slightly glossed over by what he had just said. She agreed with him on everything he'd confessed. They did deserve this time. Touching was natural, kissing was too, but anything beyond that was out of the question when you were trying to go about things the right way and be safe in doing so. No one ever said it'd be easy. "Alright. I think I'm going to go call my sister now." She stood up and grabbed her notebook and his guitar, setting it off to the side. "I need to go get my phone." JC nodded. "I think I'm going to go shower while you're doing that. I feel like I have ocean still left on me." "Ha, I know what you mean. I thought about taking one before I went to bed later." "You'll probably slap me for saying this but you know you're welcome to join me." Carly smirked and followed him into the house not being able to miss the shit eating grin he wore across his chiseled cheekbones. "I should but I'll do that later. Go take your shower Jace." JC moved his eyebrows suggestively before kissing her cheek quickly and taking off down the hall. Carly went into the living room to retrieve her cell phone and then walked back out to the balcony to place her call. Fifteen minutes later, she'd hung up with her sister, a little excited she hadn't gotten the third degree. Her sister only offered encouraging words and let her know that she was more than happy for her in whatever decision she made when it came to her love life. Of course if it hadn't been for Ava waking up early from her nap, she might have dug a little deeper. Carly was going to thank her sweet little niece one day for that. Passing by the living room, she was stopped by her name being called. "Hey Carly, you got a second?" She looked to see Tyler sitting on the couch, legs propped up on the coffee table, watching a movie. "Sure. What's up?" She said as she took a seat beside him. "I just wanted to let you know that you've been really good for my brother. It's been a long ass time since I've seen him this happy. I don't know what he's told you or what you've heard from the grape vine but he's been through the ringer." "Thanks. He hasn't really went into detail much but I've heard his ex cheated." Tyler laughed. "That's only the half of it. The first time, she cheated on him with his best friend. He was so head over heals in love with Keelie that he was to blind to see what the hell she was doing behind his back. He found out, and for some god awful reason forgave her. Why I'll never know because they weren't back together but a week and she was doing it again with someone else. He was convinced she was sorry and that she loved him just as much as he loved her and was ready to purpose. She never told him about the other affair or affairs, whichever- never had the common courtesy to leave him or dump him. He found out from a tabloid. Back then, his music had great potential and he was worthy of being in the public eye. It started out in rumor magazines but they took the bait and ran with it. In the end, they made a mockery out of him. Thankfully, after that, he kicked her out and hasn't spoken to her since. Putting the pieces together after words took a toll on him. He didn't go out for the longest time. I swear there were days where he'd stay in bed or in his studio. It killed me to see him like that. I swear if I ever see that bitch face to face, she's going to get an earful for me." Carly stood dumbfounded, looking at Tyler with wide eyes. Her heart ached at that very moment. Not out of pity for JC and what he'd been through but out of empathy for what he'd had to go through. For some reason, the thought of someone hurting him infuriated her beyond belief. When she first met him, she had been mean, believing that the rumors she'd heard were all true and the reality of it was, he was on evil end. In the short time she'd known him she'd seen a soft, giving, vulnerable side to him. The fact that someone would take advantage of that was just inexcusable. "Wow. I don't know what to say." Tyler sat up and patted her shoulder casually. "You don't have to say anything, girl. I just wanted you to know where he was coming from. Like I said, you're good for him. When your here, it's like he's alive again. He's all there. When you're not, he talks about you often. I just wanted to you know that and thank you." "You're welcome. The feeling is mutual." "Good. I think you're just what he needs." Carly started to feel unconformable, not knowing how to reply. She and JC knew that nothing was finalized in their relationship yet and didn't feel right declaring confessions of love to his younger brother just yet, regardless of whatever they might be. Still there was one more thing she wanted to know if she was getting the low down. "I probably shouldn't ask, but his music?" Tyler placed elbows on his knees. "I'll let him tell you that. I'm sure you've already found out that it's a sore spot." "Yeah I have. I'll wait till he wants to tell me I guess." "It's probably for the best. I'll let you go now. I'm sure he's probably waiting for you." "Yeah. Thanks Tyler." "Not a problem, Carly." *** Walking into JC's bedroom where she'd been sleeping since she arrived in LA, Carly heard the faint sounds of the shower water hitting the title floor. She'd figured he'd have been done for a while by now. Letting her thoughts gather, she tried to take in everything that had happened in the last hour. The dinner she'd shared with JC and his brother, goofing around like they were all old friends to the brief but intimate moment they'd shared on the balcony to the groan of frustration he'd let out when she decided it was best they stop their heated make out session to his brother giving her very important details about his past. She tried to wool it all together, to make some sort of sense out it of but she couldn't. Right at that moment, she put away her confusion, her fears and doubts and fed off the love she knew she had for him. Slowly stepping through the door, she closed it as quietly as possible. Shedding her clothes, Carly stood at the clear door that had been steamed up from the hot water he used. Trying to go unnoticed but not give him a heart attack at the same time, she pulled the handle back and stepped in behind him. Immediately her hands snaked around his slim waist where she felt him jump but he quickly relaxed, turning around slowly in her embrace, his eyes a dark shade of blue and wide with wonder. "Baby?" he asked. He didn't want to overstep that boundary but he needed some kind of permission before he continued. He could tell she wanted more even if he wasn't going to be able to love her like they wanted. Carly didn't speak. She pulled his head down, finding his lips and pulled them hungrily against her own. Her small fingers dove into his wet hair, noticing that when it was wet it tented to become curly. They both gasped when bare skin met bare skin and their bodies were slick and pressed together. JC's hands went directly for her hips, running the tips of his fingers over every curve and dip of skin he could find. They moved upward, to the side of her ribs, until they met her breasts, taking time to weigh each of them in his hand. He ran the his thumbs over the sensitive peaks, causing Carly to moan his name in a breathy whisper. From there his lips moved to her neck, kissing, nipping and licking, driving her crazy. He settled them right beside her ear, feeling her shiver as he whispered. "What are we doing, honey?" Eyes closed, head titled back in invitation to his addicting lips, Carly found the strength to respond. "Making out in the shower, Jace." He groaned, moving his lips lower, capturing a nipple in his mouth, sucking hungrily. Carly grasped onto his neck for dear life, not knowing that coming in here would end up in this hot, sexual moment. It was at that moment, that she knew she had become addicted to this man. To his lips, to his touch. Even though they were both wanting release, he took the time to love her slow like she disserved. It was little things like that that made Carly see a future with JC. He was learning her body with his hands and mouth. It was almost too much too take. He backed her against the tile wall, the cool feel of it nearly waking her from her reverie. Her hands traveled down his back, feeling every indentation as his muscles moved. The man was made of all muscle. Carly's mind flashed back to the day he'd answered the hotel room door in nothing but a towel. It had seemed so long ago but she was more then happy to be reliving it first hand, here in his shower. The spray continued to fall down his back, splashing in between then as it poured off his shoulders. He was only too happy to lick the flooding droplets wherever they fell between them on Carly's body. His lips found hers once again as his hands traveled down her back, caressing her bottom and pulling her tightly against him. His hand stilled for a second at her hip, palm moving in slow circles. They began the journey down her leg to her calf and back up as he lifted it to wrap around his slim waste. His long fingers moved to her stomach, then began the journey lower. Carly nearly cried out, her voice muffled in his shoulder where she had recently placed her head. "Jace, please." He pulled her back to look into her eyes, asking permission in a way. Kissing her passionately, he tangled his tongue with hers as he added another finger to her readiness. She stilled at the feel of him, then let her body relax as he continued. She needed this just as much as he did. "I've got you baby. Just enjoy this." he purred as his fingers slid in and out of her. Carly panted, trying her best to enjoy this, to get lost in the feeling of him but she didn't find it fair that she was the only one enjoying it. Reaching between them, she grabbed a hold of him, hot and hard against her stomach. She'd come in here for the both of them, not just for herself. He hissed out a breath as her fingers found him as his forehead came to rest against hers. "Baby this is suppose to be for you." Carly shook her head, eyes dark and fierce as she leaned forward to nip at his lips, moving against his touch. "No it's not Jace. This is about us." He let out a groan, deep in his throat, a declaration of pent of sexual frustration as she quickened her pace, gripping him harder in her fingers. The water seemed to pour down on them, the entire bathroom steamed up from what they had guessed to be more then just the water as they both moved together in usion, kissing, licking and nipping at any skin possible. When their breathing became quicker and actions more frantic, JC took the side of Carly's face in one hand and kissed her hotly as they both cried out together. Neither moved, neither could stop the thudding of heart beats as they were pressed together, hands placed haphazardly between them. Moments passed as the water and steamed flowed around them, neither noticing it until finally JC moved and laid his head on Carly's chest, his hand dropping to hug her close as her leg came down from his grasp. "God baby, why- tell me why didn't we do that sooner" Carly let out a weak and sedated laugh. "I only wish I knew, Jace." "Did you come in here to shower or to do that?" She pulled away from the wall. "I came in here to shower but decided I wanted you more." JC took her hand, pulling her gently in front of the shower spray, coming behind her and grabbing a shampoo bottle. "That I can help you with too baby." "Mmm, I'll let you do just that." Carly smiled, feeling him massage the shampoo into her hair as she leaned back against the firmness of his chest. *** Carly lie peacefully, tucked under the solid weight of JC's arms as they laid in bed that night. JC had been reading a book, glasses perched on his nose as he watched her drift in and out of sleep. Pulled out of his thoughts by the loud ringing noise, JC ran a hand over her face softly. "Carly, your phones ringing sweetheart." She mumbled incoherently, snuggling deeper into her bedmate before she murmured "Ignore it Jace. I'll call them back in the morning." |

A Million Faces in a Crowd Chapter 13. Carly stood at the doorway of JC's bedroom with her cell phone squeezed tightly in her hand. She watched her bedmate sleep on and bit her lip in deep thought. After returning her call from last night, she was a little hesitant to tell JC the news but nervously excited all at the same time. Pushing her thoughts aside, she tiptoed back over to the side of the bed she slept on and crawled under the covers, curling up beside him. She stared at JC for a second, as she often had when she woke before him. Moving closer, she laid her head on his shoulder and his arms immediately came around her, holding her close to his heart. Big eyelashes cracked slightly, announcing he was now awake. Running a gentle hand up and down Carly's back, his lips came down to kiss the tip of her nose softly. "Morning babe." he smiled sleepily, rolling her on her back and coming over her. Carly smiled, welcoming the sweet weight of him as she laughed when he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. "Good morning pervert." She laughed as his smile turned into a frown and he began to tickle her ribs. He laughed along with her before stopping and sitting up, straddling her thighs. "I am not a pervert!" he defended, smirking down at her when she rolled her eyes. "I can't help it if this sexy woman is in my bed when I wake up, smelling all seductive with her silky skin all pressed up against me." Carly's heart skipped a beat as she pulled his head down and kissed him, her lips softly caressing his until he became a full participant. When she pulled back gasping for air, she touched his cheek softly. "I know Jace. I was just kidding. I'm sorry I said it." He moved to lay down beside her, propping his head up on his elbow and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear in a tender gesture. "Don't worry about it. You're already forgiven." "You're amazing." There was no cocky smirk or gloating in his comment. "You are too babe." Grabbing the hand that was making slow circles on her stomach, Carly reached up to lace her fingers with his. "So what's on the agenda for today?" "I don't have a lot going on. I might have to make a couple calls and spend a little bit in my home studio but other then that, my day is pretty flexible. Anything in particular you want to do?" "LA is such a big place. I don't know where to start." "Well what are some of your favorite things?" He questioned. Carly thought for a moment. "I'm up for anything. I just love seeing new places, I love art, I've always wanted to-." JC stopped her before explaining quickly. "Art? That's right! Would you want to go to a museum, maybe?" Carly's ears perked up and smiled. "That'd be great, Jace!" JC sat up, smiling and pulling her along with him. "I know just the place to take you if that's where you'd like to go, honey." "Yes, I want to go with you." Carly smiled shyly, nodding her head as she got up and went for the far corner of the spacious bedroom, glancing down at the generous view of California. JC came up behind her, wrapping his arms tightly against her chest and resting his chin on her shoulder. She snuggled in his welcoming embrace, relishing in the feel of him and the warm solitude he provided for her. Her time in LA was something she feared she was becoming addicted to. **** Carly stood in front of a painting, staring intently as JC stood beside her. He glanced over at her delicate features, and took her in dressed in low rise jeans and a white halter top, and rocking her usual flip flops. Her arms were crossed over each other, face relaxed but brows scrunched up in deep thought. To him, she'd never looked sexier. He took a step closer to her, tentatively brushing his arm with hers. She turned to smile but went back to the painting. He followed suit for moment, taking in the colors and brush textures, trying to take in what she was seeing. The picture was simple, with no real specified object in but it showed colors blended in all different directions, taking in a soft wave-like affect. Each portion of the painting was separated with some type of shape to outline it and a bold black coloring to make them stand out. The artist chose bright, valiant colors, not favoring any one in particular. Some meshed together, and others stood alone. To top it off, they'd used black to swirl aimlessly around the painting and it seemed to draw out everything in just the right way. It said a lot to JC and he could finally appreciate it for what it was. Biting his lip, JC finally turned to Carly. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" She turned to him, her eyes a deep color of green, her lips upturned in a bright smile. Carly nodded once. "It's amazing. I know it's simple but I can't stop staring at it. I'm not quite sure what it is but it makes me feel at peace. At home almost." "You're right. Sometimes the simplest things have the most beauty in them. People just don't take the time to look." Carly grinned again, and nodded, going back to the painting. "Amen to that. I like how none of the colors have specific spot. It's like the artist took pride in the fact he or she could put whatever color she was feeling wherever she wanted but while doing that, everything became some sort of a puzzle and somehow in the end, it all came together." "Yes. And the fact that they outlined each shape, it looks like your staring at something specific but your not. It's all how you see it and what your take of it is." "That's the beauty of art. With it there's no rules, no specifications. It's your take of it. You paint the story, and in the end, it's your feelings, your love." JC's pinkie finger immediately found it's way to Carly's, looping it around hers and softly pulling her towards him. He smiled down at her, his eyes glowing brightly on hers, his face serious but his emotions full of so much. "How do you do that, sweetheart?" She looked up at him, her eyes wide. "Do what?" "What you just said, the things you say. They're so expressive, so powerful." She shrugged her shoulders. "I only say what I think and feel Jace. I don't know any different." He smiled before he leaned down and took her lips with his in the most tender gesture Carly had ever witnessed. His lips were soft, a gentle brush meshing with her skin. Worrying if she'd reject his public display of affection, he relaxed when he felt her do the same as her body relaxed against him. Once he pulled back, his thumb came to her cheekbone where it rested before going back to her hand. "You're beautiful Carly Piper. Intellectually, physically, artistically, you're just beautiful." Carly smiled shyly and turned her head quickly, not meeting his gaze. She didn't know how to take such a compliment. His words stuck her soul deep and suddenly it was hard to swallow. Not knowing how to will away her feelings, she tried to calm her breathing and push aside that rare sting she felt burn the back of her eyes. JC noted her sudden quietness and turned her face towards his to see her green eyes shining with tears. Not knowing this side of her, he chose his next steps carefully. Her fingers were still laced with his, though her grip had loosened considerably. "Babe?" JC looked helpless and worried at the same time. It had been some time since he'd dealt with this side of women. Her grip on his large soft hand suddenly tightened as she swallowed and reached up on her tip toes to kiss him back. "Thank you JC. No ones said something like that to me in a long time. I didn't know how to take it." "You sure you're okay?" She turned to continue across the room of the art museum, tugging his blue jean and black t-shirt clad body in her wake, smiling up at him, but not letting go of his hand. "I'm great Jace. Just great." He winked at her in return, before turning his attention the next display of art on the wall. "That you are Carly. That you are." *** "Are you sure you'll be alright?" JC looked at Carly hesitantly. She laughed and shook her head. "Yes Jace. I'll be fine. I'm a big girl. I'm sure I can entertain myself while you're in the studio." "If you're sure.." "I'm fine! Go get some work done. I already feel like I've kept you from working since I've been here for the past week. Don't make me feel any worse or I'll escape while you're gone." "I want to spend time with you babe. And you haven't been keeping me from anything. And you better not leave. I like having you here. I like spending time with you." He bussed her forehead tenderly. "I like being here." Carly smiled, welcoming his tender display of affection. "Good. You're welcome to the pool. I have video games and stuff and I'm sure Tyler would let you kick his ass if he's around somewhere. You could lay out and read, take a nap, work on your song writing-." "JACE!" Carly yelled, stopping his tirade. She laughed and shook her head before walking over to him and kissing him deeply. When she pulled away, they were both gasping. "I told you I'd be fine. Now go get something done!" "I'd rather stay here and do more of that." He winked before dipping his head down for another kiss. Carly readily accepted but pulled back when he tried to deepen it. JC stood their, his features reading the look of a pout. "Don't make me get feisty." Carly warned. JC threw his head back and laughed. "You're right. We don't want Miss Sassy pants to make another appearance." He turned and began to walk in the direction of his studio before calling over his shoulder. "I'll be back." "Good! It's about time!" Carly muttered. She turned to walk away before she heard his voice echo throughout the big house. "I heard that!" She laughed and shook her head. Some time alone was starting to sound better by the second. *** JC walked down the hallway to the sound of two voices talking back and forth and the sounds of feet constantly hitting the floor. He stood against one wall, looking over at his friend and couldn't help but laugh. "I should have known you two would find some kind of a ruckus to get into." JC mused. Tyler quickly glanced at his brother. "Dude, she's kicking my ass, I can't talk right now." Carly didn't look away from the TV once, as she concentrated hard on the game and the Wii controller in her hand, throwing her fist forward when she needed to. "Looks like you're about to lose for the second time in a row there buddy." Tyler's face contoured up in annoyance. "Whatever. You're going down in like six seconds." "If you say so. I'm counting." Carly turned sideways and took one big swing with her left hand before she turned to face him, smiling brightly. JC snickered from the background. "You got beat by a girl Ty. You officially suck!" "Shut up! She's a rare kind or she played in the Wii Olympics or some shit. She cheated! It's the only explanation." Carly turned wide eyes. "I do NOT cheat thank you very much. Suck it up." Tyler laughed, sticking out his hand. "Truce?" Carly's palm met his. "Truce." She turned and walked towards JC, taking in his attire and noting that he had added a thick black hooded sweatshirt to his slim body. "I'll never understand why people in California wear hoodies. It's like hotter then the sun out there." JC laughed. "It's cold in the studio, thank you very much." She shook her head, trying to sound convinced. "How did working go?" He cuffed her cheek softly. "It went well. Tyler keep you entertained for a while?" "Yes Jace. He was actually playing it already when I came in here. I told you I'd be fine." "I never doubted you, sassy pants." Tyler looked at the two confused. "Sassy pants? Do I even want to know?" Carly's cheeks turned red but JC was quick to defend. "This girl has different side to her. She looks all sweet and innocent but at the drop of a dime she can turn into a sassy little thing." "Don't I just know it." Tyler laughed. "Since when did this turn into a bash Carly party?" She scoffed. "It's not, babe. Ty just needs explanations for everything." "Whatever. I'm going to shower. I'm meeting some friends later." Tyler muttered. "Bye!" JC and Carly both called together, watching him leave the room. "So are you done or do I need to find something new to do?" Carly questioned. "I'm just waiting for Matt to leave and then I'm free to dazzle you with my entertaining abilities." He winked. "Matt?" "A friend of mine who I've been working with. He was saving and shutting things down in the studio, then he'll head out." "Oh, okay." Carly nodded. She moved to shut the TV and video came off and put things back to how they were suppose to be. It wasn't long before another voice boomed into the living room. "I'm all set Josh. I'll see you next month?" JC nodded, shaking the other mans hand. "Yeah, I'll be there. Let me introduce you to my good friend, songwriter, producer, ect, ect, this is Carly Piper. Carly, Matt Miller" She walked over and extended her hand to the blonde man standing next to JC. "Nice to meet you." "You also. I've heard a lot about you." "All good I hope?" She raised an eyebrow at JC. He threw his hands up in defeat and Matt smiled. "Yes, only good. JC thinks very highly of you. He says you're from Chicago?" "Yes. Born and raised." "I grew up in Evanston." Carly smiled. "I've got tons of family there." Matt returned the gesture. "Small world, eh?" "You could say that. Anyways, I hate to cut this short but I've got somewhere to be soon. Carly, it was wonderful meeting you. Hopefully I'll see you again sometime. Josh, I'll be in touch." JC nodded and watched as he walked out the door. He turned back to Carly, tugging her against his side and placing a kiss on her neck. "Now I have you all to myself." He whispered, feeling her melt against him. "What would you like to do now, Joshua?" Carly used the name Matt had called him cautiously. She had assumed that's what his initials stood for. She was introduced to JC so she preferred calling him that until he told her differently. "Well, that is my real name. You can call me that, you know." He said as he walked them over to the big leather couch before stretching out, pulling Carly down beside him. "I figured. Good to know." Carly said as she tucked an errant curl behind her ear. "Your hoodie is soft." JC nodded. "It is. I love it. So, want to watch a movie?" "That sounds nice. You look like you're about to fall asleep though." "I am kind of beat for some reason." "Take a nap. I'm a big girl. I can watch a movie by myself." He stretched a little, kicking off his shoes till they hit the floor. "You could nap with me." Carly sat up a little, looking him square in the eye. "We always end up 'sleeping' together. Don't you find this a little weird? JC suddenly looked hurt by her confession. "I like having you next to me when I sleep. Call me a girl or ultra-sensitive. I don't know what it is Carly. But in answer to your question, no I don't think it's weird. It's not like we're some random strangers, using each other to just mess around with. I care about you." Carly automatically regretted her words. Instead of arguing, she smiled and lay her head on his shoulder, snuggling into his welcoming embrace, before grabbing the remote control off the coffee table. "Me too, Jace." He smiled and pulled a blanket off the back of the couch and covered them up with it before closing his eyes, listening to the sounds of Carly flipping through the channels. On the brink of becoming fully asleep, he was awakened by sound of Carly's cell phone buzzing in her pocket. She reached for it frantically, and he wondered if she was eagerly awaiting a call or if she was trying to prevent waking him. She quickly peeled herself away from his grasped and immediately missed the warmth he provided. Walking into the closest room with privacy, Carly hopped up on a bar stool in the kitchen and answered her phone, holding her breath at the thought of who was at the other end. Moments later, JC had stumbled into the kitchen, rubbing a hand over his tiered face, trying to wake from his near sleep state. He spotted Carly sitting at the island, staring at her phone blankly. That didn't seem right. He figured when she was done speaking to whomever, she'd come back and lay with him. He missed her beside him. Shaking her from her thoughts, JC moved to sit behind her, one hand going to her shoulder. "Everything alright?" Carly jumped at the feel of his hand. He began rubbing her back once he realized his appearance had startled her. "I- yeah. Just thinking." "Care to share or is it a secret?" "Remember when my phone rang the other night?" she continued once he nodded. "It was Max." "That's a good thing, right?" Carly shrugged, going back to starting across the room. She took a deep breath, fiddling with her fingers before going on. "They want me to work with some up and coming acoustic singer. Max said my lyrics and style would be perfect for him." JC's brows furrowed in confusion. "Did I miss something? Shouldn't you be ecstatic, babe?" "They want me to go to London, Jace." His face was somber for a second. Wanting her to succeed at her fullest potential but also knowing it'd put even more distance between them. Regardless of an official title, JC knew it was going to hurt when she left and he wasn't looking forward to it. "Wow. How long?" "They said up to a month." "And you don't want to go?" Carly turned sad eyes on him. "I don't know what I want. Would I be any good over there? Would I survive by myself?" JC grabbed her hand and kissed her knuckles softly. "You'll never know unless you try, babe. You've got to give it a shot. You're so talented and something this big could really take your songwriting places. Big places." She nodded, not wanting to confess that she was going to miss him the most. That had she been offered a gig in LA, it would have kept her where she wanted to be for the moment. "You're right. I guess I'll call him back in a little bit and tell him I'll do it." JC gave her a sad, reassuring smile. "You'll do great Carly. You've got talent. Use it like you should." "Thanks Jace. You're great to me." He smiled happily, accepting her compliment. "Like wise Carly. Go make you're phone call. I'll be in my office when you're done. Maybe we can go get dinner or something later." She smiled, grateful for his constant kindness that never seemed to end. Never once did she picture herself in his house in LA, spending days and nights here with him, enjoying his company and dreading leaving him. "Sounds good." *** Twenty minutes later, Carly found JC sitting at the desk in his office, glasses perched on his nose starting intently at his laptop. Her heart stopped dead in her tracks at the gorgeous picture he made. Something about men in glasses seemed to draw her to them. He looked intelligent and down right stunning. Sliding up behind him, she looped her arms around his neck and breathed in the scent of him. He turned towards her, smiling in response and placing a quick kiss on her cheek. "How'd it go?" "Good I suppose. I wasn't expecting to leave so soon. I've got to go back home though. I need clothes and my guitar and what not." He tried to keep a straight face. "How soon?" "I'll have to leave tomorrow night at the latest to go back home. Then they want me in London at by Friday at the latest." JC nodded and stood, closing his laptop and gathering some papers. He lay his glasses down and when he turned around, Carly was standing right in front of him. He looked at her, confused. "Keep the glasses on." He turned back to them and placed them back on his face. "Why?" Carly moved her body closer to his until he pumped into the back of the desk, his papers falling to the floor. "Because. They make you look hot." He smiled, pulling her against him, his hands going to rest on her hips. "You think I'm hot, eh?" Carly nodded and began kissing his neck. "You know you're hot. Don't lie to me." JC stared back at her, looking doubtful. "Uh, I don't think of myself as 'hot'." She pulled back, pulling his face in her hands, kissing him slowly. "Well, you should. You Mr., are without a doubt hot, sexy, gorgeous. You name it." "Carly stop. I'm going to turn red." She shook her head, her hands moving up to run through his hair, holding him still. "These are things guys need to know." His fingers moved up to rest on the thin line of skin that was exposed by her t-shirt, feeling the warmth of it. "What do I owe this praise fest?" Carly snuggled up against him, as close as she could be as her arms went around his neck and her head rested just below it. Her lips moved against his skin as she spoke. "I just thought you should know, because it's true. And, well- I'm going to miss you." He stilled at her confession, finally feeling like they'd gotten somewhere in hearing her admit that. It was wonderful and scary all at the same time. He knew admitting this had to be hard for her. She'd thrown in the towel of her self-protecting shield she guarded herself with and in the time here, she let herself go and even if they were only small steps, she was starting to let her heart open to him. He wanted to look her in the eye but she didn't move from her spot against his neck. With a gentle nudge, he held her face in her hands, his forehead brushing against hers. "I'm going to miss you too, babe. More than I can say." "This sucks. I didn't expect to feel this way when I agreed to stay with you." He smiled and kissed the tip of her nose. "Are you sorry?" She shook her head carefully, still leaning against him. "Nope. Just bummed. Maybe a little contemplative but that's a common fixture in my brain. I'm always thinking, and over analyzing." "It's not forever. Go to London. Experience this part of your life. You'll know where to find me when you come back." "I don't live in LA, Jace." she looked away sadly but he quickly pulled her gaze back to his. "Stop thinking so much. We'll rearange the pieces another time. Just know if you need me, I'll be here." Her eyes felt that familer sting again and Carly was beginning to wonder what it was about this man that made her show so much emotion. She wasn't one who cried often. Very rarely in fact and the beginning frequency made her uneasy. Leaning forward, she kissed his lips sofly, letting hers linger until it became not enough and she felt his tounge brush the seam of her lips, asking for entry. She readily accepted his invasion, closing her eyes as he tasted her thoroughly. His hands gripped her jaw, his fingertips cool against her skin. Before it got out of hand, she pulled back but still keeping her forhead against his, trying to calm her breathing, and the tip of her nose touching his. She moved her fingers down to danced along the edge of his hoodie as she felt the skin benthe it quiver. "Put your arms up." she commanded. His eyes went wide. "Babe?" She nipped at his jaw. "Just do it, Jace." Finally obliging, he lifted his arms like she'd asked. In doing so, he felt Carly rid him of the hooded sweatshirt he had on. He shivered as his skin was hit with the suddenly cool air. He watched as Carly pulled the hoodie close to her as she inhaled it deeply. Smiling up at his fierce blue eyes and confused features, she kissed him once. "I'm taking this with me. If going to London is going to be a part of my life and or a piece of it, I'm taking a part of you with me." Her words delighted him, not expecting her to say that. In return, smiled brightly, placing a kiss on each of her eyelids. "Take it Carly. You'll knock em' dead. I just know it. And if it's a piece of me you want, then I want you to have it." She smiled up at him, one lone tear finally sliding down her cheek before he quickly brushed it away. "You're amazing Jace." Pulling her tightly against him, he could feel the deep thudding sound of her heart beating against his chest. Something new swept over him at that moment. How did one single confession make him feel on top of the world? Was he ready to give this thing a chance? Contemplating things were the last thing he wanted to do right now and he decided to live in the moment and enjoy what was now, and be hopeful for whatever may be. "My ego is about to explode here, but for the record, you Miss Piper, are amazing too." |
