Tyutin was the only Ranger I could actually stand most of the time. I'm happy about Rolston being back in the red and black. Can't wait to see those slappers being unloaded. Holik, not so much....but hopefully he'll smack around and annoy anyone who tries to fuck with Marty. No more of Marty getting hassled like what happened in playoffs. Devils still need a puck moving D, Gionta is being talked about as the most likely trade candidate. However, if they get rid of him they'll need Bergfors or Vrana to step in and hopefully accumulate Gio's totals. Gio's numbers last year were considered shitty to many Devil fans, with these two fellas who knows. Hopefully Gio stays, and Matt Corrente turns out to be a beast and shocks the NHL. I can dream. But no matter how he worked this one around in his mind, he simply couldn't come up with solution. Truth be told: Jagr began adding up salary numbers, goals and assists totals and the line assignments that constituted the Rangers' depth chart midway through last season and came to the conclusion that the only way he could return to New York next season was if he scored the 84 points necessary to automatically extend his contract. The way Jagr figured it, as long as he, Scott Gomez and Chris Drury had to play on three different lines, there was no way the Rangers could afford to keep all three of them. "I think, if I would have played good with Scotty or Dru, then I'd still be here," Jagr told me a couple of minutes ago, discussing his feelings about being told by GM Glen Sather that the Rangers will be moving on without him. "Then, everything would be good. There would be a different balance. "They signed two players last year (Gomez and Drury) to help the team and we didn't play together. The Rangers gave them so much money and they were kind of pushed on the side. I don't think that's good. But when we played together, it wasn't the best scenario for the team. "Nobody ever thought that was going to happen. But I was playing my best when I was with Dubi (rookie center Brandon Dubinsky). That was our best lineup. But I don't think you can keep doing that, with Scotty pushed down to No. 2 and Dru to No. 3. Plus, then you have to go out and get a winger for Dru or Scotty." Which doesn't mean that, even after he failed to reach that 84-point trigger (or win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs MVP) and became an unrestricted free agent, Jagr emotionally severed himself from the Rangers. He still hoped that Sather would make him an offer that would enable him to remain the team's centerpiece - as he sees it, an offer that kept him the team's highest-paid player. He hoped but he didn't figure on it. Asked to reckon how his tenure as a Ranger should be judged, Jagr laughed and referred to the bargain the club got in having to pay only $4.9 million of his annual $8.36-million salary upon acquiring him from Washington in February of 2004. "You have to admit, I did a good job for the money they paid me," he said. "Let's be honest, you can't look just at last year. It was not my best year. It was probably my worst by points. But it happened. But you've got to look at the whole picture. "That first year (2005-06), nobody gave us any chance to be anything other than the worst team in hockey. Nobody gave us a chance to even fight for the playoffs or even be in the picture halfway through the season. And we did it." Just as Jagr guaranteed before that season - and before breaking the franchise records for goals (54) and points (123) in a season. "I still got the record here," he said. "That's not that bad. "The fans wanted more, I know. I wanted more. I wanted the Cup. But you have to be lucky to win the Cup no matter how good you are." Jagr believes he still can be better than just good. Though he wouldn't say where he'll take his No. 68, he said he'd probably decide within the next "two days" between the lucrative offer he has from Omsk-Avangard of the Russian Continental League and what is believed to be a multi-year offer from Edmonton. And he said that whatever team gets him will be getting a guy who still can be great. "Do I think I can still do it? That I still can score 100 points? Yes. I still believe I can score 40 goals. I didn't do it last year. I had a bad year. It happens to everybody." What won't happen, Jagr insisted, is any criticism of the Rangers on his way out of town. "I'm not the guy to say any bad stuff about the Rangers or Glennie or Tom (Renney)," he said. "They were always very good to me. I think Glen is a great guy and I love him." OK. This makes me sad. I don't like how we gave him the shaft. This sucks. I HATE change. I thought for sure that the Rangers would get the job done and re-sign Jagr. I hope Jagr plays in Russia next season. I could not bear to see him playing on another team in the NHL.

Satan has the ability to score 30 goals easy if he meshes with Crosby or Malkin. Plus we locked up Fleury for the next 7 years, 35 million. LOVE IT! Also hoping the rumors of the Pens pursuing Matt Cooke are true.

It should go to Drury or Shanny if he's back. Anyway, that was sad to read. He did so much for the Rangers and the fans, it's unfortunate he won't be back and couldn't win a Cup here. I wanted to see him do that SO badly.

On other boards there's speculation that he might be interested, and some Pens fans like the idea of it. I think it'd be pretty cool to see Crosby or Malkin centering JJ.

The whole booing thing has nothing to do with whether or not we want him back. People are still pissed at how he left the team, but I'm sure most of them would love to see him patch everything up and leave on better terms, especially if in the process he scores 30 goals on Crosby's wing and helps lead us to the playoffs. I mean, he is the 2nd best Penguin of all time, after all, can't forget that I'd have to bust out my retro Jagr t-shirt That being said, I don't see it happening unless we make up a trade to free up some cap space (coughSydorcough).

He's so on my list right now.

He was waiting for the chance to go show off his arrogant personality for a big market team. I wanted him traded in 05-06, he was giving sweet Larry Robinson issues because he was slacking off, once Lou got up in there he stopped his shit. Pat Burns benched his ass in 2003 at the trade deadline, Gomez was shitting in his pants. Burns and him never got along. Sutter is the same type of coach, no way in hell he'd be able to deal with Brent calling his laziness out.

And the signing with Avangard Omsk pretty much confirms to me that the Rangers were truly the only NHL team he wanted to sign with. The Ranger team will not be the same without him. Jagr proved during the post-season that he still has a lot of hockey left in him. And I still think Gomez, Redden, and Drury are being overpaid. If they were getting a million or two less, there would be no problem signing Jagr. Also, I heard it was about the length of the contract, not the issue of money. Oh well. I wish Jagr the best. Sometimes you don't realize what you've got until it's gone. And for some Ranger fans, that harsh reality will sink in. Anyway, it was an honor and privilege to be so lucky to witness one of the greatest players in NHL history play with purpose and heart for my team. I will sorely miss watching Jagr dominate the game and spin away from defenders against the boards as well as his nasty wrist shot and his always entertaining off-ice comments. For me, he will always be remembered as the player who put his team on his shoulders and brought the NYR back to respectability. In all honesty, because of him, Ranger fans can once again walk around with pride and their heads held high, which I know some of you can't stand. With Jagr, Tyutin, and Straka no longer Rangers, a chapter ends and new one begins....hope it's a good one.

I was pissed beyond belief about him leaving but once I got a feel for Sutter I knew it was for the best. It would have been ridiculous if we had signed him to a Patty-like contract and then couldn't unload him at the deadline when the issues with Sutter really came to the head. So I'm okay with him being a Ranger. I still think he's a scumbag and should change his name to $$$cott Gomez.. but I definitely don't want him as a Devil.
