I am thinking of no soda except when eating out or during holidays, milk at every meal, and plenty of veggies and lean meats. They can also drink juice and
water. I also thought of having them take their lunch when they are in school. I thought of an idea of a huge salad and having them put it together. I can
pack some lettuce in a Glad bowl, grill some chopped chicken or ham, put some kind of dressing in a small container you get in some fast food places when
serving condiments, and maybe a couple small cookies or some jello just to add moderation. Other times, I might give them a sandwich and pack plenty of veggies
and some fruit. I just hope they don't turn anorexic, but I feel that children are being taught to eat unhealthy and this can lead to various eating
disorders. I just want them to eat a balanced meal and to go buy the food pyramid and I don't want them to think they have to be vegetarian, because I am.
That choice is there if they want to eat the same as me. Also, I am sensitive to some food preservatives and having them drink organic juice and buy organic
food will help, if they inherit my sensitivity. I don't want to deny them stuff, but I don't want them to eat unhealthy stuff most of the time.

FFS, don't send your kids to school with SALAD
Why worry about it now? |

i dont think thats bad. only if you take it to an extreme. like, NEVER allowed to have fatty/sugary foods. i brought my lunch all through school, until my sr
year of highschool. elementary school and jr high my dad packed the lunches. we only got chips (and even then it was like baked lays, or sunchips) once a week
and we got a "dessert" (which consisted of oreos of chips a hoy) on fridays. but that started in jr high. in elementary school we still got little
pudding packs or jello packs. you do want to teach your kids good eating habits, it will help them in the long run. just dont force your ED's onto them.

I think about things like this too. It scares me that so many kids are overweight these days. I always tell my bf that he is not teaching our kids how to eat,
that is going to be my job because i don't think he eats healthy enough. I haven't gotten to the point where I'm planning out their meals, though

You can give your kids a salad to take to school. If you want them to hate life.

LOL, I pack my daughters lunch everyday, and sometimes salads! I think it's a wise decision, honestly. My girl loves her vegies and fruits

Why?
Like I said, they can have sugary stuff, but not all the time. |

Of course a child is going to want junk food and soda, but as a parent you have to make that decision. Shoving unhealthy food down a child's throat just to
shut it up isn't the answer, either. Maury, anyone

Skiddz82 wrote: WTF? I want to teach them to make the right choices and that is to eat ENOUGH food. What is wrong with teaching them to eat a balanced diet? They can
eat meat, they can sweets in moderation and not everyday, and there is nothing wrong with that. Do I want them to eat junk food everyday? Maybe once a week,
but not EVERYDAY!! I think junk food LEADS to eating disorders.
But there is nothing wrong with a PBJ, a bag of chips, some carrot sticks and cheese cubes.Of course they will get lunches like that.

I have seen parents who send their kids to school with cut up peppers and carrots and they love it. I think it is just starting young. I hope I do something
like that with my kids...but who knows!

Uh, the part about the milk and no soda and stuff.....I'm all good with that. As for the salad....I'm with Lisa on that one. Poor kids.
Now I will say my daughter takes a salad with her to school but she's 17, hates the school food, hates sandwiches and it's her choice now. |

Speaking as someone who has had an eating disorder for many years, and knowing that you have mentioned you have one, I would suggest speaking to someone else
for advice if this concerns you. If you show a ton of stress over food issues, your kids will follow your lead.

JulieAnne20 wrote: Yeah, there's a difference between eating healthy and then having that be a huge issue in the home. If it's part of the normal routine that's
one thing, but if it's made into a big production and it's always a topic of conversation that could definitely result in some issues.

You can make kid-friendly healthy meals but not make a salad.
For instance, instead of PB&J (which can be filled with sugars and fat, a good sub is apple spread with Almond butter. Much healthier and virtually tastes no different than the "real" stuff. |

don't deny them, cuz when they get it they will go nuts.. My stepson, his mom and her new hubby are vegans, so when he is at her house he has to be vegan..
When he gets to our house he goes nuts on the candy and junkfood.

Yeah, I don't let my son have soda pop or candy but salad all the time, eh? I don't really think so, he wouldn't eat it anyway.
