David A from Idol is THE cutest kid ever. He has an awesome voice; he rarely misses a note. I was slightly horrified prior to the segment, though. We almost had a major malfunction people! So I'm standing in the makeup/hair area talking with L'il D (I'm sure he'll really love that name) (almost as much as he probably loved me pinching his cheeks at the end of the interview) and peppering him with questions. "How's life?" "Are you freaking out!?!??" (His answer: "Um, no. Why?" So innocent.) All of a sudden, as he's sipping out of his water bottle, and I continue to force the child to answer my questions, he starts to choke. I actually think I heard the water getting stuck in his throat, that little "errrrkkk" sound. Next thing you know he starts semi-choking, semi-coughing. Instead of offering him the Heimlich, I ran out of the room screaming "OK I'll leave you alone now" and praying this was just a temporary problem. He seemed to recover nicely, although right before he started to rehearse his song, he cleared his throat and looked at me with his little puppy eyes (ok, a lot of this is being thrown in for effect, but work with me) like "Please, Miss Juliet, please tell them I need a moment to get my vocals back into shape". We stopped the countdown, let him sip a little more water (maybe not such a good idea) and a few seconds later after we all stared him down, we started the rehearsal. Also… I haven't seen him in action much, but I have to say his dad, Jeff seems really cool and just protective. If I were the parent of a kid with as much talent as David, I'd be following his every move as well. If I were the parent of a kid with as much talent as David, who is now one of the most famous people in this country, who is not even 18, and who is truly innocent (he's never been on a date) I'd be watching him like a hawk around all those Hollywood vipers too.I'm sitting in my office trying to hide from my coworkers, who are headed to our first MandJShow softball practice. Ok, now first - I have a radio thing I have to do today at 1pm, coincidentally right when practice starts. Second, I broke my toe a couple years ago (cue violins) and it never healed, so I'm in constant pain and it's hard to run, let alone walk. Sniffle. Sniffle. Third, I'm aged. Fourth, and worst of all, I'm extremely competitive and might not be able to avoid the sore loser behavior if I mess up. My parents are probably so proud. I'm getting ready for my hit with Tom Sullivan's radio show so I'll talk to you guys tmro.
