i'm actually at the winter meetings. i've been hearing melky, hughes and kennedy for dan haren. basically the same package we were willing to give to
the twins for santana. its a mistake if we do it. haren is good, but he's not worth bothe hughes and kennedy.

We never offered Hughes/Melky/Kennedy. We refused to go that far. Heyman said Beane has asked for Hughes, but evidently, he was only on the table for Johan, no
one else. So unless their asking price comes down, that's not happening either.
It's not like they could do anything about Santana/Red Sox. They offered the best package of anyone, almost unarguably so, but the Twins' GM is out to be the laughing stock of the league. As worrying as Hank can be, I'd be livid if I was a Twins' fan and not only was my owner a cheap bastard, but my new GM was this dumb. Joba's on the new ESPN cover. He won the "Next" vote they had recently.

yeah, i'm just telling you what was being said around the winter meetings hotel. i haven't been able to watch espn to find out if anything has actually
went through because i've been falling asleep as soon as i get back to my room. the winter meetings are tiring.
anyway, i'm still waiting to see girardi, torre and donnie baseball. i've seen harold reynolds, peter gammons, buster olney, steve phillips, ozzie guillen. terry francona ate lunch next to me. I also saw theo epstein. why can't i see any yankee people?! its driving me crazy. Oh and the most random sighting, jerome bettis. why he's at the winter meetings i do not know. |

Really? I thought the offer that the Red Sox gave was kinda crappy. Whatever, I'm still bummed out.
Peter Gammons, Buster Olney, Steven Phillips? All my least favorite people. |

i was most excited about harold reynolds. he's pretty goodlooking in person.

I miss Harold on ESPN SO much.
Steve Phillips has ruined their entire baseball coverage. Is he as orange in person as he's looking on TV these days? Really? I thought the offer that the Red Sox gave was kinda crappy. Whatever, I'm still bummed out. Oh no, I meant the Yankees' had the best offer and there was nothing they could do about what happened. They put up the goods and Smith just wanted the bads instead. |

steve is orange, but not as bad in person. i saw one other baseball analyst, but i can't think of his name to save my life and its bothering me. he's
brunette, short hair and his teeth never touch when he talks <---that bothers me whenever i see him on tv.

Personally, I think getting Santana would be huge. I am a HUGE advocate of this homegrown route that we have been going lately, but our pitching staff is a big
ass question mark. We don't have an ace (or anyone very reliable for that matter), and if Boston gets Santana they pretty much have the best 1-2 punch in
baseball between Johan/Beckett. And they will have that for a nice amount of years.
Santana is a proven pitcher/ace. I love Phil and Melky, but neither one of them are "proven." Melky is average. Phil is good, and definitely had a great performance in this year's playoffs, but let's not let that impair our judgement when it comes to who is the real asset right now. With that said, I think that if Johan were to go to any other team but the Sox, I would be fine with not having him. It will just suck if Phil becomes a bust and we missed out on Johan. But, that is the nature of sports I guess. |

I don't think he's going to the Sox. Hank's ego and Cashman's manipulation of it to still ultimately get what he wanted has pretty much busted
Theo for just getting involved to fuck with us, with how this whole thing has shaken out on their end. Unless the Mets trade Reyes, Johan's very likely
going to hit FA now in the 2008 offseason and that's would be awesome for us.
We just re-signed Pavano to a minor league contract.

Pavano is about as useful as tits on a bull. WTF?
And now there is talking about trading Matsui to the Giants? |

WHAT THE HELL did pavano do that makes people think that he deserves a contract right now? apparently signing him to a major league contract and doing nothing
is something now? so STUPID.

So Bianca you really think he isn't getting traded? Is that the talk now? I'm not too up to date, I come to you for that since you seem to be on top
of things lol. I agree with Jen though, I'd be cool not getting him as long as Boston doesn't because that would be bad lol.
And I wouldn't have a problem trading Matsui. BiancaUL wrote: You have got to be fucking kidding me. I know he'll never pitch another game for the Yankees (hopefully) but COME ON. |

Unless there's a mystery team out there ready to break a talent bank for him, it seems that way. Bill Smith botched this badly for the Twins and now
he'd be stuck trying to sell a fanbase that's paying for their new stadium on trading one of the faces of their franchise's history for a bunch of
barely B talent.
I would do Matsui for Sanchez and Wilson. Or Lincecum, if we could drug Sabean... And they don't want Hangnail pitching for another team this year, while they're still paying him, if he somehow heals in time ( |

Yeah, I just read that they signed him to the minors for "insurance purposes."
I love Matsui but trading him for good pitching is fine by me. Random news: Jeter was running on my campus last week. He randomly comes to run our track in broad daylight. He is weird. |

Please just trade Matsui for any young players. The guy is only a DH and he is getting paid 13 Million per year. Plus he open a stop for Cano to move up in the line up. Why the hell was Joe batting this guy seventh and eight when he can drive in over 100 runs and hit over 20 homeruns with a 300 average. |

I'm ok with trading Matsui too.
And, I just read somewhere that Buster Olney said that the Sox will trade for Santana within the next 2-3 days. I wouldn't count on anything he says, but yeah. That's like the worst possible thing. Let him go anywhere, just not to Boston. Please. Oh, and I was reading on another board that Mike and the Mad dog were talking about some name that's gonna be on the Mitchell report tomorrow. They had one name but wouldn't say who, but supposedly it'll be a sad day in NY or something. But I guess he said it's not Jeter. Who knows. |

i'm really curious as to who is going to be on that list. i really hope none of my players are on it, but if they are, i would be extremely disappointed.

I'm worried. Only because I don't want someones image that I like tarnished in my eyes.

http://www.1010wins.com/Mitchell-Report-Due-at-2-PM--Yankees-Named-/1325272 Well we know Giambi - I think A-Rod is going to be on the list (to add to the people's resentment to him) - the year before last he was pretty big and muscular. Maybe Abreu and Damon too. There is only one Yankee who I would be totally shocked that used the steriods and that would be Jeter..... I really hope he is not on the list and with all my heart I am believing that he will not be. |
