YES. This is why this is the worst complaint ever. I live in Manhattan and have an apartment the size of a normal city (not the closets most of these places are).  I totally lucked out, am on the top floor so there is no one above me, etc. etc.  I shouldn't complain, but I have to figure out how to regage my perception to make it feel like home and not just a place to walk around in.  Maybe if I get more stuff. 
I have a similar issue.  It gets expensive when you need to buy some extra furniture just to make the place not seem so stark.  I still hear some echoing in here.  Another issue is air conditioning this place.  I only have one AC and it's in my bedroom, so my huge living room is too hot.

Edit: Yes, get some large plants.  It made my living room look more homey!
