i work at a privately owned childcare center in North Carolina. But I'm from New York. We are not required to say a blessing, but its unspokenly expected that we do. And the kids have come to expect it and sometimes I'll forget and they start singing it anyway.

The song is called "God our Father" and even in the 1 yr old classrooms they sing it. I NEVER saw anything like that happen until I moved to NC so i think it really is a cultural difference just being in the Bible Belt.

It does make me uncomfortable, even though I am Christian, just because I grew up in NY where it was so separated. Religion wasn't in school. Period.

But, its a private facility so they can ask us to do whatever. In a state funded/run facility I don't know that that would happen. However, I think the acceptance of it is definitely dependent on the area of the country I'm in.
