I see the "official language" thing used as reasoning in quite a few arguments and I really think it's kind of crap, to be honest. If you are going to live in a country where the majority of the people speak a certain language (and you know it), wouldn't it be easier to learn that language? So if governments declared an "official language" what would that mean then? There would still be people who would decide they didn't need to learn it.

No language should be mandatory anywhere, but if you go there and expect concessions made because you don't speak it.....well, sucks to be you I guess.
