no. and i do think as long as the US doesn't have an official language, they can't fail to accommodate people who don't speak english.

that being said, communication is really important, so whatever language a person speaks, they should be able to articulate their thoughts in a coherent and grammatically sound way. for a person who wants to work in an environment where they'll be functioning entirely or nearly entirely in english (particularly if english is their only language), then yes, english skills should be important in order to advance, work with people, etc. the standard of acceptable comminication skills in America is incredibly low. I have a teacher friend who is teaching PARAGRAPHS in the 10th grade because his school is so far behind. that's insane.
