I know of someone who went to NYU for undergrad on a scholarship and her dad is a high level executive at John Deere. In other words, her dad definitely could've afforded plenty of NYU tuition.
So, what are you saying? That only poor kids are allowed to get merit scholarships? I didn't quite understand this contribution.

As for schools, I'd also try to get into the Peter Stark Producing program at USC. It's a 2 year intensive (and exclusive) production boot camp, basically. You come out with business acumen and real cinema connections. Plus, by saving a year, it would help your grad school expenses.

If you want to work in more mainstream cinema or television, Los Angeles is the place to be. The job market is tough, but a lot of my friends are working. I know several people who went to NYU for film; it's a great program, but they eventually moved out here to get positions. And honestly, I'd be leary of incurring too much student debt. A MFA in film isn't worth it unless it's a top tier program like NYU, USC, or UCLA - you're essentially paying for networking and industry connections.
