I have a hard time wrapping my mind around the concept of voluntary surgery in general.

People seem so nonchalant about plastic surgery, but freak over tonsils. Anytime you go under anesthesia you risk/increase a chance of death.

I don't fully understand why people always think there must be deeper issues, esp regarding self esteem.  I had mine done, and I don't have self-esteem issues at all.  I mean,  besides your normal, "would be nice to lose a couple pounds here and there" I'm actually very confident in myself as a person.  It was just something that I always wanted to do...when I realized my boobs weren't going to grow anymore I said, "if I can afford it one day, I'm doing it..."  I don't regret it at ALL.  I did my research, went to a great doctor, and paid for it in full.  I would absolutely 110% do it again because in my opinion, it was way easier than I expected it to be.

Because someone who's "very confident" in themselves wouldn't feel the need to undergo an expensive and painful surgery to alter their physical appearance for purely cosmetic reasons.

True. Paris Hilton has the money (to increase her cup size) and seems uber confident, yet she leaves them be.

*And I don't consider reconstructive in this category. So if someone had a reduction or implants due to a mastectomy that is a total different scenario (than just vanity).
