I didn't watch the vid, but I don't know why this would seem surprising or whatever. Only like 3 people from Idol from currently have any real, lasting mainstream type success (I mean Kelly, Chris D., and Carrie Underwood..I might have miss one but those 3 seem the most popular).

Most of them just get their 15 min of fame and then disappear in the background. I think it's just the set up on the show. It's like a joke now. To me, it's just not staged in a way that's seriously gonna give someone a lasting successful career. People vote because some is cute or has a fun personality but most of the time half the people that get into like the top 5 or whatever just don't have the talent and or "it" factor to really make it in the 'real world'.
