Depends on the area. Like here, it's only AT&T for POTS (plain old telephone service/system). In some areas, you can have two or more options for POTS. I do have the option of getting digital phone service through my cable company. The way TWC worked is the service comes in on the cable line to a modem, the modem connects to the telephone jack (they replace it from a single jack to a dual jack) and then all the jacks in the house have connection. However with digital phone, if the cable goes out or if there's a power outage, you don't have phone service.
