This is your fault. You saw the big ass FedEx truck where you'd normally look for a stop sign. Wouldn't you kind of think maybe there was a stop sign behind it? Especially if you saw a stop sign across the street?

I almost posted exactly this.

Thing is, do you, at EVERY intersection without a stop sign in your direction, look across the street to make sure that there isn't one for traffic in the opposite direction? It's important to be aware while driving... but that's taking it to a whole new level in my mind.

No, but if I approach what appears to be a four way stop and I can't see if there's a stop sign because of a big obstruction, then I'd look across the street to see what to do.

I don't think it's reasonable to stop at every intersection, but I also can't see flying down a street without paying attention to my surroundings.

THANK YOU! Apparently I couldn't properly articulate that. I'm not saying you need to come to a complete stop at every intersection you encounter, but I would assuming it's only natural to slow it down just a tad bit from 50-60 km/h when proceeding through an intersection. I've had two close calls with people blowing through theirs stops (one at a 4 way and one where it's a stop sign for only the one way).
