New York now has one more mover and shaker: Justin Timberlake, the pop star confirms to PEOPLE.
"It's the greatest city in the world," says Timberlake, after he reportedly plunked down $5.25 million for a downtown condo.
Though his rep wouldn't comment on the purported purchase, Timberlake told PEOPLE that, when it comes to NewYork, "It's good for everything. It's good for food. There is good fashion. There is mostly good weather except for [rainy] today. And it's the realest city in America."
En route Thursday to Hammerstein Ballroom for Keep A Child Alive's 5th Annual Black Ball - benefiting the charity Alicia Keys founded to help HIV/AIDS children and their families in Africa - Timberlake, 27, told reporters, "Alicia is a great friend of mine. We both got to talking about this event. We talked about how we had both been to some of the same places in Africa, and how … money in the right places can actually help."
Timberlake also told PEOPLE , "Yes," the children he encountered in Africa moved him. Asked if one day he'd like to become a father himself, he replied, ""I'm not sure."
John Mayer in Auction
On stage, Timberlake delivered. Between sips of Smartwater - "to make myself smarter," he said - Timberlake sang "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows," "Until The End of Time" and several duets with Keys, including "Another Day in Paradise"].
For the cause, John Mayer and Queen Latifah battled in bidding on a signed "God Save The Queen" poster by artist Jamie Reid.
Once Mayer took the bidding to $110,000, he crossed the room and hugged Latifah. The auctioneer then agreed to find two posters, to sell each star for $100,000. (In addition to improving access to therapy, Keep Children Alive offers such support services as nutritional projects, diagnostic testing, training of health care workers, counseling, and funding sites where AIDS orphans can be cared for.)
The auctioneer's offer prompted Latifah and Mayer to high-five - and hug again.
