I expect that rather than OTL being the thing that actually broke them up, it just got picked on as an example of what they were less keen about as a group - a symptom rather than the actual disease, if you know what I mean. It's the cheesiness of it all, I think. (I mean, they were always a little cheesy, but OTL was a big old stinky slice of cheese ). I know one of them (Joey I think) said that the lip balms and some of the merchandising used to annoy him... that kind of stuff, the stuff that might make people view them less as musicians than as the pretty boys who are there to sell shit to girls.

I think OTL was probably an indicator that their names couldn't sell everything any more, the tide was changing, and I think it probably frustrated Justin who I think, even then, clearly longed for the musical credibility they deserved but were never given. The whole cheesy spin off boyband movie thing I think was probably just an example of the various downsides of being a mass marketed pop group.
