I dont think the west's involvement is helping anything. Brussels set the deadline for Ukraine to accept the EU proposal in November and thats whats kicked off most of the fighting. The coup that then took place wasnt championed by everyone in the country so I dont understand how thats a legitimate govt in the eyes of the west but Crimea wanting to vote on their own issue is "illegal".
Russia sending troops is exacerbating the issue but its not like Ukraine would ever qualify or suffer through the austerity measures to join the EU in like a decade (which is why the president at the time turned down the EUs offer) so they might as well try to stay on Russias good side because if Russia discontinues their oil discounts or asks to have their debts repaid- its going to destroy their financially ruined country even more.
Plus the fact that Ukraines new govt is stating they need 21billion to survive the next few months... who are they going to get that money from? This is a financial crisis being dressed up as something else. The president they ousted was voted in democratically and the lady president they had before that now back on the scene was also super corrupt. Nor is the political vision of the new interim govt even clear so why would we go to war to keep them in power? They could be just as bad... theyre setting up rich businessmen who control almost all of the industry in Ukraine in their govt to "help persuade the workers". Like what? Maybe hold off on sending fighter jets to help them out.
