I'm not ready for this at all. Yes we all knew there would be a day that he would retire but now that it is a reality I dont like it. I havent made it to the new yankee stadium yet so now I have a road trip in my future to see him play again. I went to the old Yankee stadium in its last year. I got to sit 6 rows from the yankee dug out (yes, i paid a lot of money for it). I had a sign for derek and he saw it and waved to me. I flipped out!! All the people around me laughed and thought it was nice he waved to me. I would love to meet him one day.

Jesus.  I would count that as meeting in my book!  He stared right at you and waved.  Ah amazing!happysmurf  I haven't been to the new stadium yet either and my trips back to the east coast aren't happening until end of October so I'm gonna try to fly in for the games in Cali.  I was thinking to make some signs and get all ridiculous about it.  He just had such a huge impact on me growing up, the Yankees as a whole did.  I met Joe Torre last week and I could barely put a sentence together without stumbling over my words.
Def go see him play.  He is a living legend.  And if you sit close enough and he sees your sign...you never know!!  I never got to met anyone famous but i know i would stumble over my words too.  I will be at cooperstown in 2020 for his induction into the HOF.  Its going to be so weird to watch a game without him.  it was weird when Posada left.
