Yeah, it's a painful reality. It really wasn't like that. William Hartnell was the first Doctor. He got too sick to continue so the writers had to come up with something and regeneration was it. It was a smart business move actually because when the current actor wants to move on, they can just regenerate him. That's why the show is able to last this long. It is quite an emotional rollercoaster that every Whovian goes through. There are fans that don't take to the replacements and stop watching and may or may not eventually watch and there are those like me that keep up with it. It's always interesting to get to know the new ones. It's like gaining new friends while cherishing the old.
