I have mentioned that my niece and I have tickets for tomorrow. Our original plan was to avoid all spoilers all weekend so we can enjoy it all on Monday. However, since a wintery mess is predicted for tomorrow, we were worried all our spoiler avoidance would be for naught if the weather keeps me from travelling to her town for the movie. So we decided to just watch it just in case. Earlier today, we went to Hot Topic to get her fez, bowtie and suspenders---pretty much her Eleven gear for tomorrow if plans push through. I'm gonna bring my Eleven sonic to complete her outfit. She's a bigger Ten fan but it's easier to dress as Matt, .
Btw, when we were in Hot Topic today, we were going around playing with stuff. There was a Matt Smith stuffed toy where you press his chest and he goes, "Hello, I'm The Doctor" followed by the TARDIS sound. Then I got a text and my ringer for that is the TARDIS sound. I have the theme song too and I use that for calls, . Anyway, this pretty, high school girl who worked there comes up to us and was so excited. She said she heard the TARDIS sound and just had to see if we were DW fans. She said she saw her movie and I told her not to tell me anything, . She was surprised that there was another day of showing. We spent the entire time talking about DW and I even showed her my DW phone case and she ended up getting one of the guys she worked with to look at it too. She was just soooo cute and frankly, she and I would have talked forever if it were up to us,
Anway, I watched it tonight and I laughed, I cried, I squealed, etc . Basically the typical Doctor Who rollercoaster of emotions with "WTF" being said in varying emotions as well. All in all, I LOVED it with all my heart!!! I am going to put everything in a spoiler below out of respect for the other Whovians
I must say, I was bitchy about having John Hurt in the film when I first heard about it. I know he's respected and all but I know I wasn't alone. However, I am now sorry for that I did because he was amazing. He really took hold of the role and was just brilliant, BRILLIANT!!
Matt and David? How much do I love thee? As Doctors and as themselves, they just have so much charisma and their chemistry is just palpable. Someone needs to write a story and make a movie with those 2 together again. Don't care of it's DW related. I want MORE of them. . As a a whole, the 3 of them together was kick-ass.
I do have some quibbles. They could have chosen a better actress to play Queen Elizabeth. She's just not memorable. The role or acting didn't have to have the caliber of Cate Blanchett. I just think some other actress could have played her better. She had no sparks esp with David. How could any human with a functioning set of eyes not have sparks with David, ??? Also, if there was one time I wanted Moffat to lie, it was for this one. I really wanted to see Chris. Damn Chris and his principles, . For a second, I thought we would see him as Hurt regenerated and believe me, I was holding my breath but alas, Moffat did tell the truth, it was just recycled footage for that and the War Room. I also understand it was impossible/unrealistic to use all the past doctors as themselves seeing they've physically changed so much. However, I was really happy to see Tom Baker who really is the one of the most beloved of all the Doctors. The end where they're lined up just made my heart swell. I know it was a dream but the graphics could have been better. I also thought it was respectful and fitting that William Hartnell was separated and by himself. ALL HAIL THE FIRST DOCTOR!! Also, PETER CAPALDI's debut!!!!
Even with those few quibs, I still think they really did a marvelous job especially with the humongous hype and expectation. Kudos to everyone that worked onscreen and off. It really came off as a love letter to Doctor Who and its fans. Well done, .
That's all I can think of right now, will post later if needed.
nanny825, before the filming of DoTD, Matt and David knew each other through Billie Piper(Rose) who is a friend to both. With filming, that's how the bromance started and believe me, it's like a dream come true for me, . I just knew they'd get along!
