I remember being a kid, and getting sick at least once or twice a year, and sometimes HAVING to go to school sick because my parents didn't have health insurance and couldn't afford to take me to the doctor to get a note so that my absence would be excused. It sucks, because I get why school systems have rules in place that the court system will be called if your kid misses so many days, but if you can't afford to take your kid to the doctor unless they're in serious trouble, what other choice do you have? In those days, I only went to the doctor when I was seriously sick/in pain or when I had to have a vaccine for school. I'm grateful to be covered, even if it's Medicare and Medicaid. At least now when I have a problem, I can go to the doctor and nip it in the bud instead of having to wait until it's an emergency. I can't understand why anyone would not WANT health insurance.
