^^ no, not yet.

The Ontario Fire Marshals office says its ongoing investigation into the fire at the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market is focused on one specific area of the building.

The cause of the fire that destroyed the main market building at the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market is still unknown, however, the investigation is now focused on the southeast corner of the building.

A Supervisor with the Ontario Fire Marshals Office, Lonnie Schubert provided an update Tuesday afternoon, “As you can imagine, there are a number of potential ignition sources in that area. We brought in one of our forensic engineers from the Fire Marshals office, he’s working in there with our investigator and we are in the process of going through the whole scene, comprehensively, try to identify all the ignition sources.”

Schubert says it’s a matter of looking at all ignition sources and eliminating them, “The more time we’re here, the closer we get. And when we’re at the point and time when we can eliminate one thing, then that’s the cause of the fire. So I guess we are a little bit closer, but we still have a ways to go.”

Schubert says he’s not sure when their investigation will be over, “We would hope sooner rather than later, because we’d like to see things get going, get the community back in business here. But we’ll take whatever time it takes to make sure we’ve covered off everything. Our goal is right now, it looks like we might be finished some time tomorrow (Wednesday).”

As for a possible criminal cause, Schubert says until they know a cause, they’re not ruling anything out.

I can't believe a 24,000 square foot building didn't have any sprinklers!! It's really fortunate no one was injured.
