Parents need to parent!

I agree with this, and I get what you are saying but in American society/culture parents talking to their kids about sex is considered weird/awkward somehow. There's a stigma against talking about sex. Sure theres always plenty of gratuitous nudity on TV and magazines, but to find people talking about sex in a mature, nonjudgemental manner in the media is rare. I mean look at every "family friendly" tv show EVER that broached the "birds and bees" subject. In every scene where the parent tries to talk to their kid, it just ends badly. I feel like it potentiates this stigma that parents just don't know how to talk to kids about sex because its too "personal" or "awkward"..and then because of this, real parents get afraid and they would rather have a neutral third party offer sex ed in a bland, textbook manner like they teach everything else. As a society, we still aren't open enough about sex and sexuality. Unless that changes, and people can feel free to talk about sex without shame, I don't think the whole teenagers having unsafe sex thing is gonna get fixed.

My parents NEVER talked to me about sex. Not even once. THANK GOD i went to a liberal school that had a very thorough sex ed class. Our guidance counselor who taught it was amazing and was not afraid to be honest with us and answer all our weird questions. We started getting sex ed in the 3rd ed, all the way to 9th.
