Oh, Damien definitely was a prick when he was 18. Some of his actions/statements didn't sit well with me either when I had first seen PL. But he has said that [I'm paraphrasing] at the time he had felt that since he knew he didn't do it, that there was no way for anything truly bad to happen to him because there was no proof, so he assumed sooner or later he'd be able to just go home. Clearly, he was quite wrong. But I guess that's kind of the blind belief that we adopt when we're young---that the justice system will always work, when obviously that's not always the case.

But I think he's done a lot of growing up at this point, and I think Lorri has quite a lot to do with that. And I'm glad that everything is still good with their relationship, because tbh I was scared for them once I knew he was going to be released... because, even though they had been married for I think 10 years at that point, maintaining a fully functioning marriage while being so culture-shocked with being in the real world again can not be an easy adjustment.

I wouldn't say they're unaffected though. They just had SO much time in there to truly reassess their lives and their spirituality and their outlooks and all that... I'm sure it's still a constant struggle on a daily basis for them.
