I think some people forget that part of why Chris Brown's violence was so blown up (or at least how I see it, I could be wrong) was the undeniable photo evidence of it all, Rihanna speaking up about it, not to mention his continuous idiocy. Other domestic abuse cases with celebrities were not so public.
This. That picture is burned into my brain. Seeing it almost in action made the public feel they were apart of that whole thing. Another huge factor is Chris Brown himself - his lack of real, true remorse. He seemed so fake and not ashamed of what he did and he went out of his way to antagonize people and prove his new little thug image.

I think this was a huge part of it. She was popular, they were viewed as that nice young couple, and then that photo got plastered everywhere. Whereas when other celebrities have committed DV it's not been so visible.

I think it also helps that Dr. Dre moved on from it and his outbursts died out while Chris Brown can't ever seem to move on and throws a tantrum like a little child and cries that he's the victim.
