And a female really doesn't 'need' to wear earrings either, so for a parent to pierce their daughter's ears, it's also saying that 'there is something wrong with you....' just as much as plucking is. Babies/toddlers aren't asking their parents to get their ears pierced, so it's completely the parent thinking it should be done.

And just because it's one time doesn't make any less for vanity/to make the girl look better.
