He's one of the worst hitters in the AL the last two years (.289 wOBA last year, .281 wOBA this year).

It's only $2M from the Yankees-side, so I'm not angry about them taking a "risk" on him possibly having a hot second half, but it ain't like Seattle's losing anything. Hell, they might get better by subtraction (and the "prospects" they got back are just filler guys).
