I agree with you, but personally, the people I went to see the Avengers with were like, who the hell is Loki, what is Asgard, who are these guys? etc. That was asked over and over again. I totally agree though that as a stand alone movie it's amazing and they hinted "enough" back to the others, but still, it was "the others." They even showed clips from the Cap movie in this movie....

I could see some people still loving the movie therefore not bothering asking questions, but to a random person going I'd imagine it being very, very confusing.

That's not a fault though I'm not dissing it! I'm just saying, that's how it is. This movie, to really appreciate so much of it you'd have to understand how they did the "series." Because it really is a series of films interlinked. Not to mention I was so, so pleasantly surprised by Thor and Captain America that I feel if you liked The Avengers it's practically folly to not watch them. They were really, really good... And for a lot of the same things mentioned here (humor, characters, action etc).
