I just recently found out I have a fibroid. Mine is only about 3.5 cm, but it's submucousal as well, so I've had awful awful symptoms. I have very, very heavy and long periods and AWFUL cramps and back pain.

I'm still pretty young and definitely want children, so I'm lucky that a hysterectomy wasn't something my doctor even considered. I just got a shot of Lupron (3 month dose) which is supposed to shrink the fibroid. The doctor said with the way it's grown now, she can't successfully remove it with one operation, but with the Lupron, it will shrink it to a more operable size. For my surgery, the doctor is basically going to do a D&C and then use a scope to go up and remove it. The procedure is called a hysteroscopic myectomy. I'm very glad she's doing this, because it means I won't have an incision and my recovery time will be very short.
