This. People seem to have a low standard of perception if you're a "temp". I know one company (it was a bank) who didn't invite the "temps" to their Christmas party, which I felt was REALLY crappy. Most places tend to treat you like their own, though employees feel the need to comment on you being a "temp". In NY, temp agencies are used a lot by the state departments because of budget stuff.



Yes! This is my current company. We are on contract and we get treated like third class citizens around there. Just yesterday, my department had a team lunch outing and we didn't get to go. In some respects it really doesn't bother me that much because I can buy my own lunch when it comes down to it, but to be excluded from all company functions and perks sucks when you're working just as hard, if not harder than the people who work there. But heck, if you need a job, temping or contract work definitely isn't a horrible thing.
