Usually the peak season is in December, but this year it picked up right before Thanksgiving. Most of the time these new hires are kids who think they can do the job, but when the find out that it's not easy they quit within a day or two. If you think throwing your package a few feet is bad you should see what they do in the package areas. They throw them all the time, they fall down, get crushed by other packages and sometimes even walked on. UPS likely feels it's the shippers responsibility to protect the item in the box, if not and it gets broken it's their fault not UPS's. That's why the insurance is there. During this time of year they are swamped with packages and simply don't have the time to wait for someone at the door if it's not required. Drivers sometime have so many packages that they are out there well into the night. I mean 8 or 9 PM.
