I guess some of us would just hope that at least one of the adults who were aware of what was happening would go straight to the police.

This isn't tshirts or tattoos or breaking NCAA violations, this is rape of child. It is a crime of such nature where one liked to have hope in fellow human beings that for the most part, that is an act that they would report to police because of how heinous it is, no matter the money. How Penn State officials have (the A.D covering it up, and anyone along the lines who knew no legal action was being taken and stood silent, which includes the grad student witness) handled this and continue to (Spanier standing by our AD) is completely reprehensible because of the nature of the crime. They all let a child molester walk free to continue to prey upon children.

Come Monday morning I'm sending some serious emails through the alumni channels asking for pressure to both the President and AD for resignation.

Thanks, you worded it well.   And yeah, that grad student who witnessed it...I would have been running into the room and yelling for Sandusky to stop, not just backing out of the room and calling my dad.  Everyone involved needs to be held accountable to the fullest extent possible.  Everyone involved failed to protect these boys.  I am glad you'll be contacting the people you know to call for those resignations.

It will be interesting to see what kind of civil suits might come from this, as well.

multiplescreennamesfreak has a point though. Yes, I think we all expect adults who knew about something of this magnitude to be human enough to report it because that's what good people do. But msnf is right. This is an organization that has a lot riding on it in terms of money. The games, enrollment, endowments etc. If our current political climate has taught me nothing, it at least shows us that in this country, most people with money, power and status will do whatever they have to do to protect their money/power/status first and people second. Call that pessimistic (and I'm an idealist) but it's true. There's no way they were going to expose this kind of thing within their own community and risk losing all of this, at least not without a good game plan on how to deal with the backlash first.

Look at Tressel, a man that I respected and am very disappointed in. He didn't report their NCAA violations for the same reasons (money) and all those dumb fucks did was get free tattoos and sell their shit. This school was helping to cover up child molestation and rape for god's sake. I definitely wouldn't expect them to roll over and tell the entire country what's going on inside their own program.

Is it what they should have done? You're damn right. Am I surprised they didn't? Not one bit.
