Interesting. So he admitted it, took responsibility and is extremely remorseful. So he's not claiming innocence, claiming a set up, saying he's a scape goat, etc?? Yeah.

So because he took responsibility, he gets to live despite the fact that he took a life? Reading the posts on here and other sites, everyone kept claiming about Troy Davis "So what? He's a convicted murderer! He should die for his crimes!" Why is this Crowe guy different just because he admitted it? By all this logic, shouldn't that mean he should die as well?

No one actually knows whether or not Troy Davis is guilty and no one was saying he should be set free. Everyone was fighting for a stay/commute his sentence to life because it's wrong to kill someone when there is not 100% hard evidence that he killed someone. The only evidence against Troy Davis are witnesses and that whole witness recanting, implicating someone else was one giant clusterfuck. Saying that because Crowe admitted it somehow makes him worthy of not dying is extremely unfair to Troy Davis, especially considering that it's very plausible that Troy Davis is in fact, innocent. It comes off as implying that if Troy Davis just admitted to doing something that he believes he didn't do that he might be alive today.
