i wouldn't date any of my friends' recent bfs. however, if it's been like 10+ yrs since they dated or someone they weren't serious about, then i don't think it's that big of a deal.

i also wouldn't go after someone they're planning to pursue. unless i'm madly in love with the guy, i don't see why i can't find someone else. there are so many guys out there, why go after the same one my friend is interested in?  of course, if a long time has gone by without my friend making a move, then the guy should be fair game.  out of courtesy, though, i would probably give her a heads up that i'm interested in the guy.

Pretty much this. There is nothing worst then when you have a crush on someone and you're trying to make a move and make it work, and your "friend" just decides they want in on the action.

There is always a certain time period, which varies from person to person, at which point any feelings you may have for a guy have passed and you've moved on, and you wouldn't care if your friend tried to make it work with them. You can't really define that time period, because some people may take longer, and others a shorter amount of time.

And definitely a heads up would be nice BEFORE something happens, not after something's happened and you're left wondering wtf your friend was thinking.
