Most doctors now a days are just pushing off to you what the drug reps tell them. They are told that the new versions are much better than the ones that have been around, so therefore they prescribe them without knowing how much they really cost (1 pack of loestrin 24 retails for about 93 dollars while LoLoestrin retails for over a 100 dollars a pack and the regular 28 day Loestrin fe 1/20 retails for 29 dollars for generic!). I bet if you told them that cost was an issue (because doctors are clueless in most cases), and asked to be put on regular loestrin fe 1/20, they might be willing to try. As for your insurance, it's possible that they were telling you they prefer you take a generic, which doesn't necessarily mean there is a generic. The savings card only needs to be presented once..but I would hold onto it just in case the pharmacy forgets to submit to both insurance and savings card on future fills.
