I feel like such a poseur sometimes because my camera is so much more expensive than I need. I'm not even an amateur photographer. I'm just a normal person who needs to take pictures of her travels sometimes. So my pictures pretty much suck. But my husband always wished he had time to be an amateur photographer (he studied it in college - though not to fully complete a degree in it), so he bought me a camera that he would have wanted for himself. As a gift.

But yeah, every time people see me whip it out, they're full of questions and want to hear about my photography and flip through pictures on the camera. And I have to admit that it's a complete waste of money on me and I'm not trying to be something I'm not!

He could probably still become an amateur photogapher. You do not need a degree to become a photographer. There are many ways to become a photographer without getting a degree. If he is not sure about it, he can look become an assistant...
