I've been scammed before too, when I was younger and an idiot. They said they were raising money for a College Trip overseas to speak to troubled orphans or something. I said no twice and each time, someone else came, so I eventually gave them money just to get them to leave me alone. It was for a combo (they said they couldn't sell the magazines individually, it had to be in pairs, so it was a Subscription to Cosmo and Glamour, for like 45 bucks -- yes, again, I was stupid).

The first guy saw me bc I was home alone outside so I couldn't pretend I wasn't. They were all nice, not aggressive, but practically begging and insistent. I felt off but I gave him money anyway bc he was the 3rd person to come up (he said he wasn't aware his fellow classmates approached me yet). He marked a piece of paper with an X on black ink and told me to stick it on my door so no one else approached me again.

The neighbor came over shortly after and told me they told her a complete different story, about raising funds to help w/a classmates surgery costs. So we hung onto our receipts and called the cops to see if they could track the boys down and stop them from coming around our neighborhood, and they took a report and searched for them for a while bc they said other ppl had reported them too, but I'm guessing they never found them.

If you Google it, you can find out all the stories. Google the story they told you, I'm sure you'll find info about the scam. That's how we found all of the ones they told us, before we called the cops.

I know this much, I will never buy anything door to door again. Ever.
And go figure, I never got those magazines.
