In terms of alcohol, it's usually mimosas and wine (again, for the showers I've been to). Gifts come from the registry for the most part, although some people got things that were more personal for the bride and/or groom that the guest knew or thought the couple would want/need. Lingerie has been part of some of them, but for others, the lingerie was gifted at the bachelorette party. The wedding gift is more typically a check, to be honest. I'm not saying any other standards are wrong, just that they're probably different based on where you're from. It could also just be the norm for your circle of people. Two things are pretty standard across the board though:1) The address of the location was always on the invitation2) Watching someone else open presents for two hours is the second highest thing on my list of things I hate doing. (The first highest thing would be opening presents for two hours while people watched me.)
