I think part of the reason why people were in such an uproar about Britney was that she had a really sweet and goofy personality, but then she'd go and rip her clothes off at the VMAs or pose in a push-up bra and hot pants on the cover of Rolling Stone. She balanced the good girl/bad girl thing so well that she'd still keep people guessing over what she was going to do next. I don't think any female pop act today can say that, as blatant and constant sexuality is so predictable.
