I've had my license for 3 years now and I can definitely see both sides of the spectrum. I live in NYC (closer to long island) and used to always just use public transportation. I would ask for rides a lot and I felt bad doing so. I think another good reason to have a license is god forbid someone you know has to go to a hospital - in my case, the hospital is 7 minutes away and ive had this happen to me prior to getting a license. Luckily I knew how to drive so I was able to help out. I can't imagine not having a license now that I have one and am SO grateful that my mom is the one that pushed me to get one. Now I don't have to mooch off of people and I can come and go as I please.

I get using public transportation, but everyone in nyc knows that the subways and buses aren't always the most reliable and after public transportation has made me late to several important things, I drive mostly everywhere. The only other form of public transportation that I really take is the LIRR because that is the most reliable means...I also do understand people that are asking what would people without licenses do once they have kids.
